Odour can be one of those frustrating operational challenges because it rarely comes from just one place;

➡️ Restrooms see constant use.
➡️ Kitchens generate cooking, food and grease odours that linger and rarely stay confined to the kitchen.
➡️ Waste areas have to cope with food waste and busy collection cycles.
➡️ Meanwhile, lobbies, corridors and other shared spaces experience a constant flow of guests, staff, deliveries and everyday hustle-and-bustle.

And the busier the venue, the harder it can be to stay ahead.

That’s why effective odour management should go beyond simply reaching for a stronger fragrance or scheduling another clean.

➡️ Air Care provides continuous, automated odour management, using Photoplasma™ technology to help neutralise unwanted odours at their source – keeping indoor spaces fresher for longer between scheduled cleans.

We’ve all done it. Something smells, so out comes the ‘linen fresh’ air freshener… and now the room smells like fresh linen AND the original odour issue 😅

The problem? Adding a stronger fragrance doesn’t necessarily remove the source of an unwanted odour, it can simply introduce another scent into the same space.

And in busy environments like restrooms, changing rooms, hospitality spaces and shared facilities, odours are rarely a one-off problem. They’re continuously being introduced throughout the day.

That’s where a different approach to odour management comes in.

Rather than relying on fragrance to cover unwanted smells, Biozone Air Care uses Photoplasma™ technology to help neutralise odours at their source, providing continuous, automated odour management between scheduled cleans.

Because sometimes the answer to unwanted odours isn’t making the room smell like something else - it’s tackling what’s making it smell in the first place.

New technology often comes with questions 🤔

And when that technology is being introduced into a healthcare environment, those questions carry even more weight.

For one maternity hospital in Surabaya, the goal was clear: improve indoor air quality across its labour and ward rooms.

But concerns around ozone emissions meant the team was cautious about introducing a new air treatment solution.

Working with Biozone’s local distributor, the hospital explored the technology through demonstrations, site visits, a dedicated seminar and supporting information, before putting it to the test within their own environment.

The result?

Air Care was introduced into the ward, with testing demonstrating low ozone emissions, while its UVGI technology delivered a significant reduction in the airborne contaminants measured.

At Biozone, we believe that building confidence in a new solution isn’t about avoiding the difficult questions - it’s about giving people the opportunity to ask them 💬

Here’s how that journey looked 👇

Air quality is a little like WiFi: when everything is working as it should, you probably don’t give it much thought.

But when it isn’t? You notice.

Lingering odours, stuffy spaces and poor ventilation can quickly change how a space feels - yet indoor air is often something we only think about once there’s already a problem.

Whether it’s a hotel, healthcare facility, restaurant, leisure space or commercial building, the air is part of the experience - even when we don’t consciously notice it.

Air quality shouldn’t only get our attention when there’s a problem.

An odour complaint might sound like a small problem. In hospitality, the impact can be anything but.

Guests experience a venue as a whole; the service, the surroundings, the atmosphere, even the way it smells.

And when something isn’t right, there’s an operational impact too.

Someone has to investigate the source. The area might need to be recleaned. The guest needs a response. And if the odour returns? The cycle starts again.

➡️ More products.
➡️ More time.
➡️ More hassle.

Where unwanted odours are persistent or repeatedly introduced, continuous odour management can help you move from simply reacting to the problem to getting ahead of it.

Biozone Air Care works continuously and automatically, using Photoplasma™ technology to help neutralise unwanted odours at their source rather than simply masking them with fragrance.

📣Because the best odour complaint is the one you never receive 📣

There are some things your maintenance team simply can’t control

Your team can:
➡️ Maintain a thorough cleaning schedule
➡️ Plan preventative maintenance
➡️ Manage waste and bin collections
➡️ Service and maintain equipment
➡️ Monitor facilities and respond to issues

But you can’t schedule how a building gets used.

You can’t control the sudden lunchtime rush, the number of people passing through a lobby, the food brought into shared spaces, the unexpected spill, or the odour that appears two hours after an area was cleaned.

And in busy buildings, those little things add up – time and time again

That’s why maintaining a good indoor environment isn’t always about cleaning more.

It’s also about considering what happens between scheduled maintenance.

Biozone’s Air Care is designed to work continuously, helping to manage unwanted odours as they arise rather than simply masking them.

Because maintenance might be scheduled, but building use isn’t.

When we think about healthcare, we think about the care being delivered.
But what about the environment it’s delivered in?

Patients, staff and visitors can spend hours, sometimes days, inside healthcare facilities. And everything from air quality and ventilation to lighting, acoustics and temperature shapes that environment and their overall experience.

Our latest blog explores why air quality is becoming an increasingly important part of the Indoor Environmental Quality conversation, and why managing it means looking beyond any single solution.

Shared office. Shared facilities. Shared air.

Unfortunately, that also means sharing some questionable decisions…😅

We’ve rounded up a few of our favourites

What are we missing? 👀

15/10/2026

What do a new desk, fresh paint and your favourite air freshener have in common?
No, this isn’t the build-up to a joke 👀

They can all release VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) - chemicals that easily escape from products and materials into the air we breathe.

Now, this all sounds very technical, but you’re probably more familiar with VOCs than you realise…

Think about a freshly painted room, new furniture, cleaning products, adhesives, printers or that unmistakable “new car” smell. These can all introduce VOCs into indoor air.

These emissions can build up, particularly where there are multiple sources or limited ventilation.
That’s why indoor air quality guidance recommends reducing pollutant sources and using ventilation to help dilute and remove them where possible.

So, should we be worried?

Not every VOC is harmful, and exposure isn’t as simple as “VOCs = bad”

What matters is which compounds are present, how much is in the air and how long we're exposed to them. Some can cause short-term irritation or headaches, while prolonged exposure to certain VOCs is associated with more serious health effects.

That’s why managing VOCs is part of good indoor air quality.

The first steps are straightforward: reduce the source where possible and provide appropriate ventilation.
Air treatment can then form part of that wider approach:

Biozone Air Care and Powerzone utilise Photoplasma™ technology to help reduce VOCs and unwanted odours, supporting cleaner, fresher indoor environments.

And while VOCs may sound technical, in reality, they’re part of the environments we experience every day

Cold and flu season doesn’t just mean more tissues and sick days 🤧
As we move into the colder months, we naturally spend more time indoors, often with windows closed and less fresh air circulating. In busy shared environments, that puts even more focus on the quality of the air around us.

Good indoor air quality is an important part of creating healthier, more comfortable spaces, alongside established measures such as ventilation, cleaning and good hygiene practices.

That’s where our technology can form part of a wider indoor air strategy.

🌬️ Air Care is designed for continuous use, using Photoplasma™ technology to manage odours at the source, and UV-C technology to reduce airborne contaminants.

⚡ Mini Powerzone provides a more intensive solution for targeted air and odour treatment when spaces are unoccupied.

From workplaces and hospitality to healthcare and other shared environments, is your indoor air strategy ready for the season ahead?
