🎉📚 It’s release day at Candy Jar Books! 📚🎉

We’re kicking things off with The Worst Mayor Peterborough Ever Had! by Alan Dowson.

It’s certainly a title that grabs your attention, but there’s an extraordinary life behind it.

Alan was a former Mayor of Peterborough who spent more than 50 years in public service. At just 19, while serving in the RAF, he witnessed two atomic bombs and two hydrogen bombs during nuclear tests on Christmas Island in 1958. He went on to become a political campaigner and fight for recognition for British nuclear test veterans.

Alan passed away in January 2026, aged 87, having completed his memoir. We’re proud to have brought his book to publication and help preserve his story in his own words.

A remarkable life, a candid memoir and a title that certainly gets people talking!
