Men’s Health Week 2026 💙

This year, Men’s Health Week runs from 15–21 June, ending on Father’s Day.

It’s a reminder of something that still isn’t talked about enough, many men are struggling in silence.

The campaign focuses on:

Breaking the stigma around seeking medical help
Encouraging preventative health checks
Addressing the higher rates of male su***de
Raising awareness of cardiovascular disease, which disproportionately affects men
Too often, help is only sought when things have already reached a crisis point.

But looking after your health shouldn’t be reactive, it should be part of everyday life.

Whether it’s a physical check-up or speaking up about mental health, small actions early on can make a real difference.

At Pineshield, we see how important it is that people feel supported not just physically, but emotionally too and that starts with normalising these conversations.

This week is about changing the message:
Strength isn’t staying silent. Strength is getting support early.

🩸 World Blood Donor Day 🩸

Donating blood is one of the simplest ways to make a difference. In just 30–40 minutes, one pint of blood can save up to three lives.

❤️ Step 1: Sign in, complete a short questionnaire, and have a quick screening check. This ensures you're eligible to donate that day and checks your iron levels to make sure it's safe for you to give blood.

❤️ Step 2: Relax in a comfortable reclining chair while the nurses take your donation. The actual blood donation only takes around 5–6 minutes.

❤️ Step 3: Enjoy some well-earned refreshments and sweet treats! You'll stay for around 10 minutes afterwards so the team can make sure you're feeling well before you head home.

That's it. Less than an hour of your time could help save someone's life.

If you've been considering becoming a donor, why not take the first step today? You can complete the eligibility quiz or book an appointment at:

Thinking about a role in care?

We’re currently looking for kind, reliable people who feel drawn to supporting others and making a real difference in their local community.

You don’t always need previous experience — what matters most is your attitude, compassion, and willingness to learn.

Care work is about helping people live safely and independently in their own homes. It can include things like:
• Providing companionship and a friendly face
• Supporting with daily routines
• Helping people maintain independence
• Offering reassurance and emotional support

It’s a role that genuinely matters. No two days are the same, and the impact you make is real and immediate.

If this feels like something you could see yourself doing, we’d love to hear from you and talk through the opportunities we have available.

If people naturally come to you when they need help, support, or a bit of reassurance… there’s a good chance you already have the qualities that make a great carer.

Care isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about showing up with kindness, patience and a willingness to make someone’s day a little easier.

We’re currently looking for people who feel drawn to supporting others at home, with full training provided and no previous experience needed.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.

The Bank Holiday heatwave is here 🔥

Hot weather can cause discomfort and a risk of dehydration for people living with dementia, and an amber heat alert is in place across parts of the country this weekend.

If you’re supporting someone with dementia, here are a few things that can help:

Make sure the person is dressed appropriately. Try light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes made from natural fibres.

Keep the house as cool as possible. Keep curtains or blinds closed during the day - especially in south-facing rooms. In the evening, open the windows to let the warm air out and the colder air in.

Avoid the midday sun. Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day (between 11am and 3pm). Seek out plenty of shade and reapply sunscreen regularly when out.

Find ways to cool off. Help them take a cool bath or shower. Place a washcloth and some iced water nearby to dab themselves with.

Stay hydrated. Leave beakers or jugs of water within easy reach. Provide high-water-content foods like ice lollies, jelly, ice cream, soup, and fruit such as melon.

Ask friends and neighbours to pop in and check the person is ok if you don’t live near them. Perhaps the visitor could stay, have a drink with the person, and make sure the person has everything they need.

📢 Please share so we can keep everyone living with dementia safe in the heat.

“What if care wasn’t about doing things for people… but helping them do things
for themselves again?”

This is called Reablement and it’s a growing area of home care that focuses on helping people regain independence after illness or hospital stays.

Instead of doing everything for someone, reablement workers support people to
rebuild confidence, routines and everyday skills.

It’s one of the most rewarding areas of care and something we’re excited to grow at Pineshield.

Swipe to learn more about what reablement really means.
