Don’t you hate it when people tell you to “just calm down”? 😮‍💨
As if our bodies work like an on/off switch.

In this episode of Body Concierge, we explore the 4Bs of self-settling — simple movement and body-based ways to support yourself when you’re feeling nervous, overwhelmed or emotionally activated.

These are small, practical tools you can return to:
✨ before a difficult conversation
✨ ahead of a big event
✨ after an intense day
✨ or anytime you need to come back to yourself

In my work, I’m often reminded that settling isn’t about forcing ourselves to calm down — it’s about giving the body enough support and safety to find its way back to balance.

You don’t need any movement experience, just a few moments and a willingness to check in with yourself a little differently.

The full video is available now on our YouTube channel 💛

I’d love to know — what helps you settle when your nervous system feels overloaded?

1. Movement helped people reconnect with their bodies

Participants described becoming more aware of how they were feeling physically and emotionally through creative movement and reflection.

2. Solidarity reduced feelings of isolation

Being in a group with shared lived experience created a strong sense of belonging, trust and mutual understanding.

“Knowing everyone here is going through similar things is so special.”

3. Psychological safety mattered

A non-judgemental space allowed participants to express themselves honestly, experiment creatively, and feel seen without pressure.

4. Creativity supported emotional wellbeing

Movement, playfulness and creative exploration helped participants process emotions, release tension and reconnect with joy.

5. Small moments of movement had meaningful impact

Participants reflected that even short movement practices helped shift energy, improve mood and create moments of pause in daily life.

6. People wanted these spaces to continue

Many participants expressed a desire for ongoing connection, community and movement-based wellbeing support beyond the programme.

“I didn’t realise how much I needed this space.”

Thank you to everyone who took part, shared reflections, and helped shape this project.

Something I often notice is how hard it can be to trust what’s happening in our bodies — especially when we’re used to thinking things through first.

In Body Concierge – Episode 7, I was joined by Carly Marchant-Smith, a guest dance movement therapist, to explore what it means to begin trusting and shifting through movement.

Together, we gently explore how small changes in movement and awareness can open up different ways of experiencing ourselves — not by forcing anything, but by allowing something new to emerge.

These practices aren’t about getting it “right” — they’re about noticing, responding, and giving yourself permission to move in a way that feels honest.

In my work, I’m often reminded that trust in the body builds slowly — through moments like this, where we pause, listen, and follow what feels possible.

I’d love to know — what helps you trust your body a little more? ✨

Something I often notice is how difficult it can be to truly recharge — especially when we move straight from one thing to the next without pausing.

Sometimes rest isn’t just about stopping, but about finding small ways to restore our energy and reconnect with ourselves.

This short movement practice focuses on the recharge part of the process — offering gentle, creative prompts to help you reset, take stock, and find a bit more balance in your body.

You don’t need any movement experience. Just a few minutes, a bit of space, and a willingness to notice what you need.

In my work, I’m often reminded that recharging doesn’t have to be a big interruption to the day — it can happen in small, intentional moments that help us come back to ourselves.

The full video is available on .wales website as part of a series exploring ways to energise, recharge and unwind through movement. Link: https://hapus.wales/wellbeing-tool/energise-recharge-and-unwind/

This might be something to return to between tasks, between sessions, or whenever you feel your energy starting to dip.

I’d love to know — what helps you recharge when your energy feels low?

Greetings from Thessaloniki 🇬🇷- here at the Prescribing Art in Health Care Meeting. Lots of incredible colleagues talking about arts on prescription from all over the world.

Something I often notice is how difficult it can be to truly wind down — even when the day is over.

Our bodies can still be holding onto everything we’ve carried, even when we’re ready to rest.

This short movement practice focuses on the unwind part of the process — offering a few simple, creative ways to slow things down, release tension, and soften back into the body.

You don’t need any movement experience. Just a bit of space, and a willingness to move gently and notice what’s there.

In my work, I’m often reminded that unwinding isn’t something we can force — it’s something we allow. And sometimes, even a few minutes of intentional movement can help create that shift.

This might be something to return to at the end of the day, or whenever you notice things building up.

I’d love to know — what helps you unwind when your body is still holding onto the day? 🌙

Between September and November last year, I had the opportunity to be part of a project exploring how creative movement can support people navigating menopause — and the impact was powerful to witness.

MenoMove was a 12-week programme bringing people together through dance and movement, both in person and online, with participants joining from across Wales and beyond.

What stood out most was how these sessions supported not just movement, but a growing sense of energy, connection, and body awareness. Participants spoke about feeling more able to regulate emotions, manage symptoms, and reconnect with their bodies in ways that felt supportive and affirming.

Just as importantly, the group space itself became something meaningful — a place where people could share experiences, feel less alone, and build a sense of trust and psychological safety together.

The programme was delivered by The Body Hotel CIC in partnership with Arts Council of Wales and health partners, as part of a wider conversation around creative health and menopause care in Wales.

We’ve now shared the full evaluation, which brings together these experiences alongside creative and research-based insights.

If you’re curious about how movement, creativity and health can intersect — especially in relation to menopause — you can read the full report via the link in bio (or head to the WAHWN knowledge bank).
