Your hip hurts, but has anyone taken the time to look at what your big toe is doing?
As many of you know, I mention this often during my consultations and sessions.
Your toes, especially those big ones, have a much more important role in body balance and movement than you may think.
As you walk, they need to extend and take load, so the feet can push away from the ground and the legs can travel behind you. If that movement is limited, the body may quietly change the plan. If you have bunions for example, your big toe may not be able to work as it should.
You may.....shorten your stride, turn the foot out,
shift more weight to the other side
OR ask the hips, knees or lower back to do more than they naturally would.
That doesn't mean every painful hip is caused by a stubborn or immobile big toe. What it does mean is that the painful place (or pain specific) may not be the only place worth looking at in order to support or solve the issue.
The body does not organise itself in isolated parts. It adapts as a whole.
Bowen...the therapy your big toe would choose! ☺️
