It's the unpaid carers cafe at Aberporth Village Hall, SA43 2EW this Wednesday, 1.30pm to 3.30pm. All unpaid carers welcome for coffee, biscuits, chat and info. A special note to anyone caring for someone with PTSD and wanting to know more about treatment that takes just 2 sessions. I'll be there to explain more about it.
While it may sound too good to be true, it has been used successfully for decades - not only have individuals benefitted from relief of their symptoms, it's also been successful for emergency services, police force and military personal as well as civilians in war zones.

Over the past few years, through personal experience, my work and volunteering with local carers, I've had the privilege of listening to many people who quietly carry enormous responsibilities for those they love.

One thing I've learned is that as carers we often minimise our own emotional needs. Many don't even think of themselves as carers.

I've written an article called "The Hidden Emotional Cost of Being an Unpaid Carer" in the hope that it reassures anyone who recognises themselves in those words that what they're feeling is normal, understandable and shared by many others.

If it helps even one person feel a little less alone, or one family to better understand, it'll be worth it.

You can find it on my website - denbythestream.co.uk/therapy-resources

I'd be grateful if you'd share it with anyone you think might benefit.

It's Carer's Cafe Aberporth again next Wednesday. I’m looking forward to seeing the usual faces there and always lovely to see new ones. I'll be available, as usual, for a chat about anything troubling you.

On that note, you (and your family or friends), may be interested in a series of articles I'm putting together about the emotional impact of significant life transitions including that of an unpaid carer, which will be the first in the series. I hope you'll find the articles helpful and encouraging, either for yourself or to share with someone.

Collectively called 'The Transition Companion' you'll find the first article "The Hidden Emotional Cost of Caring" on my page: Linda Howard FITmind Counselling from Monday 29 June.

It’s the nature of my work that I should often ponder the emotional challenges and personal difficulties people experience and my reflections often end up in my journal. It’s a common practice to clear the head and it helps me see new perspectives. I specialise in loss and grief, which covers a wide range of significant life transitions, because change can be difficult and straying too far from the familiar can bring about anxiety and deep emotional stress.

Future topics will look at the emotional weight of parents watching their children leave home, navigating retirement, and enduring relationship breakdowns.

It's Aberporth Carer's Cafe next Wednesday, 4th May. I've missed the last two due to family circumstances, so I'll be pleased to see everyone there again.
Anyone caring for (or know) a services veteran with PTSD may like to let them know I'm offering free treatment and will be available on Wednesday in Aberporth, or in Cardigan on Monday 18th May to chat to anyone interested in knowing more. The treatment requires only one or two sessions and has an 85% success rate (for those that meet appropriate criteria). You can also DM me.
