🥺 Is your little one feeling anxious about starting or returning to school or nursery?

😔 Are they struggling to say goodbye to you at drop off?

😭 Often, what can happen is they’re fine for the first week or so then once they start to realise the permanence of the situation drop off can become harder and more tearful for them even if they were fine to begin with.

🫶🏼 If they are struggling, have you tried a hug button?

❤️ Draw a heart on your little one’s wrist and another on yours.

🥰 Tell your child that they can press their heart at any point throughout the day if they are missing you or if they need a hug.

🤗 You can find fun ways to ‘charge up’ your buttons on the way to school or nursery too!

🥹 It’s good for us parents too when we’re missing our little ones!

👶 Expecting a little one this September?

💎 Their birthstone is the stunning sapphire — a gem of wisdom and protection. Their birth flowers are the aster and morning glory, symbolizing love, faith, and new beginnings.

💙 Depending on their arrival, they’ll shine as either a thoughtful Virgo ♍️ or a charming Libra ♎️

A great day on Friday at Jordyn Louise Dance completing their training.

Genuine care and interest from everyone to understand how to cope in an emergency and keep the children safe whilst in their care.

Loved my day in the studio and not a tap shoe in sight 🤣🤣 next time maybe or perhaps a go at Aerial?!

Thank you for having me!!

🔹 Breath-holding is when a baby or child stops breathing for up to 1 minute and may faint. It can happen when a child is frightened, upset, angry, or has a sudden shock or pain. It’s usually harmless but can be scary for parents, particularly when it happens for the first time.

Breath-holding episodes:

🔹 usually last for less than 1 minute (if the child faints, they'll usually regain consciousness within 1 or 2 minutes)
are not epileptic seizures

🔹 Your child is not doing it on purpose and cannot control what happens when they have a breath-holding episode.

‼️ Call 999 if:
👉 faints and cannot be woken up
👉 is shaking or jerking because of a fit
👉 is blue or grey

🔹 These could be symptoms of breath-holding, but could also be related to other, more serious conditions. If a doctor has not previously told you it's breath-holding, it's important to get it checked immediately.

⚠️ See a GP if your child has already been diagnosed with breath-holding and:

👉 has breath-holding episodes more often than before or the episodes seem worse
👉 is stiff or shakes for longer than a minute and takes a while to recover
👉 has breath-holding episodes that are affecting everyday life

🔹 The GP will try to find out if there's a more serious underlying condition. They may suggest an ECG to check your child's heart rhythm.

🐝 Have you noticed the wasps becoming more of a nuisance recently? We’re likely to see a lot more of them around this year.

🐝 The warm weather we’ve had means the queens wake earlier and start nesting sooner which gives the colonies more time to grow resulting in larger populations. Wasps are more active in warm conditions and hot summers mean faster egg-laying, more workers and bigger colonies.

🐝 Warm weather also boost insect number which are a key food source for wasps.

🐝 You’ll see more wasps around in August and September when the workers switch from hunting insects to seeking food elsewhere (ie our drinks and food).

Here’s what you can do to reduce numbers where you are:
✅ Cover bins and compost
✅ Keep sugary drinks and food sealed when you’re outdoors
✅ Don’t swat – this releases a pheromone that can alert other wasps

If your child gets stung:
✅ put an ice pack wrapped in a cloth, or a clean cloth soaked in cold water, on the bite or sting for at least 20 minutes, if it's swollen
✅ keep the area raised if you can
✅ take painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen if the sting is painful
✅ use antihistamines to relieve any itching
✅ use a hydrocortis
✅ one cream to reduce itching and swelling (ask a pharmacist for advice)
✅ Watch for signs of a serious allergic reaction

🥰 Bedtime is the perfect opportunity to connect with your child and help encourage self-belief and self-love. When your child is facing a long night without you it’s a nice way to connect and be present before you say goodnight.

❤️ These are some lovely conversation starters to try.
