This National Blood Week (8–14 June), we're celebrating the incredible people who donate blood and help save lives every day.
Whether supporting someone in an emergency, helping patients undergoing complex surgery, or providing vital treatment for people living with sickle cell disease, blood donors make a real difference when it matters most.
(& the people delivering - shout out to Blood Bikes Cumbria 💖 who provide a free out-of-hours medical courier service 365 days of the year for urgently needed blood products, samples, breast milk & other medical requirements.)
Right now, the NHS urgently needs more:
🩸 O negative donors – the universal blood type used in emergencies
🩸 B negative donors – one of the rarest blood types, essential for specialist treatments and surgeries
🩸 Black heritage donors – more donors are needed to help provide closely matched blood for people living with sickle cell disease
⏱️ In just one hour, you could help save up to three lives.
If you've ever thought about donating blood, now is the perfect time to find out more and register.
Please share this post with friends, family, and colleagues who may not realise they carry a blood type that is urgently needed.
Your donation could be someone's lifeline.❤️
