Some treatments remove or destroy the visible part of a mole. But if the tissue is destroyed, there may be no complete sample to send to the laboratory.

This matters because histology is the process that allows removed tissue to be examined under a microscope.

Without histology, there may be no confirmed diagnosis of what the mole was.
At Rippon Medical, we take a clinically responsible approach.

Suitable moles are surgically removed and sent for laboratory testing, giving you clearer information and safer care.

Before having a mole removed, ask whether it will be sent for histology.

Cosmetic removal still needs clinical care.

Many people choose to have moles removed because they catch on clothing, become irritated, or affect their confidence. That is completely understandable.
But even when a mole is removed for cosmetic reasons, it is still skin tissue and it should be treated responsibly.

At Rippon Medical, suitable moles are surgically removed and sent for laboratory testing. This means the tissue can be examined properly rather than simply destroyed.

Mole removal should not just be about how the skin looks afterwards. It should also be about safety, testing and proper aftercare.

Ask us about safe surgical mole removal with histology.

Checking moles at home? Know your ABCDE's.

When checking your moles, remember ABCDE:
A - Asymmetry
One half looks different from the other.
B - Border
The edges are uneven, blurred or irregular.
C - Colour
The mole has more than one colour or uneven colouring.
D - Diameter
The mole is larger than 6mm or is growing.
E - Evolving

The mole is changing, itching, bleeding, crusting or becoming raised.

Not all concerning moles follow these rules, so it is also important to trust your instincts.

If a mole is new, changing or looks different from your others, seek medical advice.

Save this post and check your skin once a month.

Before having a mole removed, ask:

👨‍⚕️Has it been assessed by a medical professional?
💉Will it be removed surgically or destroyed with a surface treatment?
🔬Will the removed tissue be sent for histology?
🔍What happens if the laboratory result needs follow-up?

A photo assessment can be useful, but it is not the same as laboratory testing.
If a mole is left alone, you can continue checking it for changes.

If it is destroyed, you may lose that ability and there may be no tissue sample to examine.

At Rippon Medical, suitable moles are surgically removed and sent for histology, giving you clearer answers and safer care.

A tan is a sign of UV damage.

A tan from a sunbed is not a healthy glow.

It is a sign that your skin has been exposed to ultraviolet radiation. UV exposure from the sun and sunbeds is a major risk factor for melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer.

There is no such thing as a safe sunbed tan.

Protect your skin by:
1. Avoiding sunbeds
2. Wearing SPF
3. Covering up in strong sun
4. Checking your skin regularly
5. Getting new or changing moles assessed

Your skin health matters.

Noticed a mole changing? Please seek medical advice.

Removed should not mean unchecked. At Rippon Medical, your safety comes first.

When we remove suitable moles, we use surgical techniques that allow the removed tissue to be sent for histology.

Histology means the mole is examined in a laboratory under a microscope. This can help confirm whether the lesion is benign or whether further medical care is needed.

Some cosmetic treatments destroy the visible mole without leaving a complete sample for testing. This can remove the patient’s ability to keep watching that mole for changes and may make future assessment more difficult.

That is why we believe mole removal should be about more than appearance.
It should include:

🔍 Careful assessment
💉Surgical removal where appropriate
🔬Laboratory testing
👨‍⚕️Clear aftercare advice

With us, mole removal is not just cosmetic. It is clinically responsible.
