Someone recognised me while I was out for breakfast this morning and said, “I assume you’ve ordered something healthy or just a coffee while you’re on Weight Watchers?”
Firstly… Weight Watchers?! 😂
I’m on The 1:1 Diet!
Secondly…
I’d ordered the Canadian stack.
Because I fancied pancakes.
And yes. They’re “on plan”.
Not because there’s some secret 1:1 Diet pancake allowance I’ve somehow failed to mention 😂
But because I’m a normal human being, and sometimes I’m going to choose what I fancy rather than what I think I should have.
The interesting bit isn’t actually the pancakes, though.
It’s what happens after the pancakes.
Because even now, sitting at home, I can hear it…
I should go for a walk.
I could have had a shake at home.
Or a bacon sandwich — I’d have enjoyed that just as much.
We’ve already bought food for the week, so I didn’t need to spend the money.
And then comes the guilt.
Ohhhhh, the guilt.
Maybe I shouldn’t eat for the rest of the day.
Maybe I need to walk it off.
Or its equally unhelpful cousin…
F**k it. I’ve blown it now. Might as well have a full Sunday roast and pudding and start again tomorrow.
And THAT is the bit that can knock you off track.
Not the pancakes.
It’s the beating yourself up afterwards.
The shoulds.
The ought-tos.
The guilt.
And the feeling that because you made one choice that wasn’t what you’d normally have “on plan”, you now need to either make up for it… or say f**k it altogether.
You don’t.
Breakfast doesn’t need compensating for.
And it doesn’t get to make the decision about lunch.
I enjoyed my pancakes.
I enjoyed getting out of the house with Shaun. I put my phone away for most of it. We had a laugh — particularly when Shaun’s fried egg made a bid for freedom, landed in his lap and then hit the floor 😳🤣
It was a lovely morning.
So now?
I just make my next choice.
Maybe I’ll take these two little hooligans for a walk because I fancy getting outside with them.
But not because I owe anyone — including myself — a walk for eating pancakes.
One choice doesn’t take you off plan. And your next choice doesn’t need to punish you for the last one.
If you recognise that “I’ve blown it now, I’ll start again tomorrow” feeling, maybe today you don’t need to start again.
Maybe you just need to make your next choice. 💛
