Playday 2026 takes place on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, celebrating children's right to play with the theme "Play – here, there, everywhere". Coordinated by https://www.playscotland.org/ the annual event highlights everyday adventures and making local spaces more playful.

Every child has the right to the highest attainable standard of health. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child has warned that alcohol marketing can have a lasting impact on children’s health, wellbeing and development.

Now that the UNCRC is incorporated into Scots law, Scotland has a duty to protect children and young people from harmful influences, including alcohol marketing. Young people themselves are raising concerns about how visible and heavily promoted alcohol is in their communities and are calling for action. Their voices deserve to be heard.

Alcohol marketing leads children and young people to start drinking earlier, to drink more, and to drink at problematic levels. We need to do more to prevent this.

🗣 Help Shape Conversations About Substance Use Among Young People!

We're looking for the views of young people and parents/carers to help develop new resources about substance use, alcohol, and harm reduction.

📋 Please take a few minutes to complete the survey using the link below;

https://forms.office.com/e/zMrens3aSr

We want to better understand:

✔️ What young people feel they need to know about substances
✔️ What they would like parents/carers to understand about current drug and alcohol trends
✔️ Parents' knowledge, concerns, and perceptions around substance use

By taking part, you'll help us create accessible information and support that reflects the real experiences and needs of families across Lanarkshire.

Research shows that open, honest conversations between young people and trusted adults can play an important role in reducing harm and supporting informed choices.

📢 We'd also be grateful if you could share this post to help us reach as many people as possible.

Together, we can help shape more informed and supportive conversations about substance use in our communities.
