Hello, I’m Victoria, the therapist behind Peace Massage Therapy. Here I am giving one of the therapies that has played an important part in my own wellbeing—reflexology.
After my hysterectomy in October 2023, I was fortunate to have a wonderful group of therapists and practitioners supporting me as I began my journey to recovery.
At first, I was in too much pain for deep pressure, so I received very gentle massage. As my recovery progressed, I also had support through cupping, reflexology, homeopathy and our amazing herbalist here in Carmarthen.
Each therapy supported me in a different way, and it helped me appreciate just how important it is to look at the whole person—not simply one symptom.
I still have a treatment every two weeks to help keep me feeling in tip-top condition. I know from personal experience how important it is for therapists to look after themselves too.
This is also why I continue learning. The more knowledge and skills I develop, the better I can understand and support each person who comes to see me—physically and emotionally, and always as an individual.
No two people are the same, so no two treatments should be either.
When you visit a therapist, what helps you feel comfortable, listened to and cared for?

You don’t have to simply put up with it.
It is common for people to be told that their wound has healed and everything looks fine, while they continue to experience tightness, pulling, sensitivity, numbness or restricted movement.
These feelings can sometimes remain for months or even years after surgery or treatment. They may affect everyday activities, confidence and how comfortable you feel in your own body.
You deserve to have those concerns taken seriously.
Scar therapy cannot promise a particular result, and it is not suitable for everyone. However, gentle, personalised treatment may help support the movement and comfort of scar tissue and the surrounding area.
You do not need to know whether treatment is right for you before contacting me. You are welcome to ask questions, explain what you are experiencing and have a friendly conversation without any pressure to book.
Sometimes the first step is simply knowing that somebody is willing to listen.

Your comfort always comes first.
It is completely understandable to feel nervous about someone touching an area that has been through surgery, cancer treatment or radiotherapy.
Before beginning, we talk about how the area feels, what concerns you have and what you are comfortable with. I explain what I am doing, regularly check how everything feels and adapt the treatment to you.
Scar therapy should not involve forcing the tissues or expecting you to tolerate pain.
During your appointment:
• You remain in control
• You can ask questions at any time
• We can pause or stop whenever you need
• Treatment is adapted to how you feel that day
• Your privacy and dignity are always respected
There is no pressure to do more than feels right for you. Treatment is gentle, personalised and led by your comfort.
If you feel unsure or would like to ask questions before booking, you are welcome to contact me for a friendly, unhurried chat.

Why do I continue to learn about scars and recovery?
Part of the reason is personal.
On 19 October 2023, I had a hysterectomy. The second photograph was taken the day after my 26 staples were removed and shows my scar during the early stages of healing.
Please be aware before swiping that the second image shows a healing surgical scar.
As a qualified aromatherapist, I created my own personal blend to support my scar as it healed. I was very pleased with the result.
On 25 and 26 April 2026, I attended two days of in-person Oncology Scar Therapy training. During the training, I used the gentle scar-work techniques on my own scar.
Even though my scar was around two and a half years old and had already healed well, I was genuinely amazed by the additional difference I could see and feel in only two days. I continued with the course and was delighted to pass on 3 June 2026.
The third photograph shows my scar today. These photographs show my wider healing journey rather than a two-day before-and-after comparison. Time, natural healing and my own personal scar care have all played a part.
My experience is not the same as going through cancer treatment, and every person’s recovery is different. However, living with my own scar has helped me personally understand some of the physical and emotional feelings that can follow surgery.
It is one of the reasons I feel so passionate about continuing to learn and offering gentle, personalised support to others.

A client’s experience: less tightness and easier movement.
One client came to see me experiencing pulling and restriction around her scar and underarm following cancer treatment. The area felt tight, and this was affecting how comfortably she could move.
Treatment was gentle and adapted carefully to what felt comfortable for her. Afterwards, she noticed less pulling, improved movement and softer-feeling tissue around the area.
Every person and every scar responds differently, so results cannot be promised. However, changes that may appear small to someone else can feel incredibly meaningful to the person experiencing them.
This is why I take time to listen—not only to how a scar looks, but to how it feels and how it may be affecting everyday movement and wellbeing.

What happens during your first appointment?
Your first appointment begins with an unhurried conversation. We will talk about your surgery and treatment history, how your scar currently feels and any changes you have noticed in your comfort or movement.
You will have time to explain your concerns and ask questions without feeling rushed.
We may look at how the scar and surrounding tissues move and discuss what you would most like support with. I will explain everything before beginning and make sure you feel comfortable throughout.
If treatment is appropriate, it will be gentle and carefully adapted to your body and where you are in your recovery.
You remain in control at all times. Nothing is done without your understanding and consent.
If possible, you are welcome to send me a brief history of your cancer journey before attending. This helps me understand what you have experienced and means you do not have to feel rushed when you arrive.

Recovery is not always a straight line.
Some days you may notice progress, while on other days your body may feel tighter, more tired or more sensitive. This does not necessarily mean you are going backwards.
Recovery after surgery, cancer treatment or radiotherapy can take time. Your body has been through a great deal, and healing does not follow the same timetable for everyone.
Be patient with yourself. Notice the small improvements, listen to your body and remember that needing additional support is not a sign that you have failed.
At Peace Massage Therapy, you are treated as a whole person—not simply as a scar or a symptom.
If something still feels uncomfortable or restricted, you are welcome to contact me for a friendly, unhurried chat.

It is never “just a scar.”

A scar can represent surgery, treatment, recovery and everything a person has experienced along the way.

Although a scar may look healed on the surface, you may still experience tightness, pulling, sensitivity, numbness or changes in movement. It can also carry emotions and memories that other people cannot see.

Scar therapy is not about changing your story or making a scar disappear. It is about gently supporting the tissues, improving comfort and helping you feel more at ease in your body.

You deserve to have your concerns listened to and your recovery treated with care and respect.

If your scar continues to affect your comfort or movement, you are welcome to get in touch for a friendly, unhurried chat.

Is Oncology Scar Therapy painful?

This is a question many people understandably ask.

Oncology Scar Therapy is a gentle treatment. It does not involve forcing, digging deeply into the scar or working through pain.

Treatment is carefully adapted to your scar, your medical history and how the area feels on the day. I regularly check that you are comfortable, and you remain in control throughout your appointment.

Some areas may feel tender, numb or different following surgery or radiotherapy, so we work slowly and respectfully, allowing the tissues time to respond.

The aim is to support comfort and movement—not to cause further discomfort.

If you feel nervous or are unsure whether treatment is suitable for you, you are welcome to contact me for a friendly chat before booking.
