Most insect bites and stings get better within a few days. But sometimes they can become infected.
Watch for changes such as increasing redness or swelling, skin that feels hot or painful, or pus around the bite.
Through NHS Pharmacy First, eligible patients with an infected insect bite can be assessed by a pharmacist and, where clinically appropriate, treatment can be provided without needing a GP appointment.
If an insect bite isn’t getting better, don’t just keep waiting for it to settle.
Visit Anna Pharmacy in Carshalton, Hackbridge or The Tudor and speak to our pharmacy team.

Starting university this autumn? Add your MenB vaccination to the checklist.
The NHS MenB vaccination programme is now available for eligible Year 13 students and first time university or residential college students under 25, including international students.

MenB can cause meningitis and sepsis, so it is worth checking your eligibility before the new term begins.

If you are not eligible through the NHS, private MenB vaccination may also be available.

Check your eligibility and arrange your MenB vaccination at Anna Pharmacy.

Myth or fact?
Many people believe food dropped on the floor is safe to eat if it’s picked up within 5 seconds.

The reality is that bacteria can transfer to food almost immediately depending on the surface, the type of food and the environment.

Moist foods such as fruit tend to pick up bacteria more easily than dry foods, but no floor is completely germ free.

Save this post for your next kitchen debate and share it with someone who still believes in the 5 second rule.

Holiday bloating is real.

Come back from holiday feeling more bloated than when you left?

Changes in routine, long flights, eating out more often, alcohol, dehydration and disrupted sleep can all affect digestion and leave you feeling uncomfortable.
The good news is that holiday bloating is usually temporary and often improves once you're back to your normal routine.

Staying hydrated, getting enough sleep and keeping active can help your body get back on track.

Save this post for your next trip and share it with someone who always feels bloated after a holiday.

Most people know heat can affect food.

But did you know hot weather can also affect some medicines?

During the summer, certain medications may become less effective if they’re exposed to heat, direct sunlight, or stored incorrectly.

This is especially important if you’re:
☀️ Travelling
☀️ Leaving medication in the car
☀️ Storing medicines near windows
☀️ Taking medicines that increase dehydration risk

Save this post for summer and share it with someone who takes regular medication.

If you’re unsure how to store your medication, speak to your pharmacist.

The forecast for the next 10 days? ☀️ SPF. SPF. SPF.

With temperatures set to rise across London, now is the time to make sun protection part of your daily routine. UV rays can damage your skin even on cloudy days, so remember to apply SPF 30 or higher and reapply regularly when outdoors.

Heatwaves can be especially difficult for older adults, young children and people with long term health conditions. Take a few minutes to check in on vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours. A simple phone call or visit could make all the difference.

✔️ Apply SPF every day
✔️ Drink plenty of water
✔️ Stay out of direct sun during the hottest part of the day
✔️ Check on vulnerable loved ones and neighbours
✔️ Never leave children or pets in a parked car

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly.

📍Walk in today at Anna Pharmacy Carshalton or Hackbridge for sun care advice and summer health essentials.
