Breast Screening Unit — Coming to Castle Douglas from early October

It's almost three years since the last breast screening round, so it's nearly time again! From around Friday 9th October 2026, the mobile breast screening unit will be at Gardenhill Primary Care Centre Carpark, and eligible women will start receiving their invitation letters soon.

In our last round, almost 80% of eligible patients came along for their screening — a great result, and one of the reasons we're able to catch problems early for so many women in our community.

All women aged 50–70 registered with Castle Douglas Medical Group will receive a letter automatically. If you're over 71, you can still self-refer. Trans and non-binary patients — there's specific guidance for you too, linked below.

Please look out for your invitation letter from the Breast Screening Service and try to keep the appointment. If you can't make the date offered, you can rearrange rather than skip it — early detection really does save lives.

Today really is the end of an era, after doing 1 day a week since officially retiring last year- Mrs Pauline Brown is now hanging up her stethoscope, everyone at CDMG will miss her more than she will ever know, a wonderful colleague and friend to us all, sure she will be equally missed by all her patients but I hope you will all join us in wishing her good health and happiness in her very well deserved retirement 💖
