Epilepsy Society

Epilepsy Society We are the UK’s only charity transforming the lives of people with epilepsy through world-leading research, advocacy and care. We are here for you.

People are at the heart of everything that we do; and we hope to see the day when epilepsy is irrelevant. Our vision is a full life for everyone affected by epilepsy. We want everyone affected by epilepsy to have the best opportunity for a full life – as free from seizures as possible. We set out to make a difference to every person affected by epilepsy whatever their background, however seriously

it affects them, and whether they have the condition themselves or are close to someone with epilepsy.

💜Can you help us to improve the way people receive genetic results.💜

Do you know someone who has received a genetic test result, or work with people who have?

We know that many of you have received genomic test results while you were driving, on
the school run and even at work. That’s why we are supporting the NHS South East Genomic Medicine Service in their quest to improve the way people receive their genetic results.

To do that, we would encourage you to complete this short survey about your personal
experience of receiving your genetic results.

They want to hear the positive, the challenging and everything in-between. The more
feedback they get, the more improvements they can make.

When epilepsy forced Naomi to give up her driving licence
and left her questioning what the future might hold, she faced one of the
toughest periods of her life.

After years of unanswered questions, a diagnosis of temporal
lobe epilepsy finally gave her answers, but it also brought new challenges,
from managing seizures and medication to rebuilding her confidence and
independence.

As Naomi's confidence grew, she began to see epilepsy
differently. Rather than letting it define her future, she focused on adapting
to life with the condition. That mindset helped her take a leap of faith and start
a business that works around her needs.

A huge thank you to all at Strata Homes Limited, who took on the Yorkshire Mountain Biking Marathon earlier this month to raise funds in memory for their colleague Tom.

Tragically, Tom passed away in February this year due to epilepsy. He was only 26 years old.

His colleague Kate said: “Everyone liked Tom and he is dearly missed. We wanted to do something so raising funds for the Epilepsy Society seemed appropriate in the hope that they will be able to support others and their families who live with epilepsy.”

Tom’s father, Tim, shared the following about his son: “Thomas had a presence when he walked in a room, a beautiful smile and the greenest eyes which could melt any cast iron heart. Yes, Thomas had epilepsy however, he never let the condition define the person he was. Instead he endeavoured to educate others through his fund raising for The Epilepsy Society”.

So far, an amazing £2,925 has been raised. If you would like to make a donation, please click here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/kate-shaw-1?msockid=301790dd0dd4623707ed85220c2f6347&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=epilepsysociety&utm_content=fundraising
