This is shameless clickbait I know, BUT… I also really wanted to show you what to expect immediately after microneedling as a worst case (or I should really say ‘best’-case) scenario.

This gorgeous patient of mine is 30 years old and first came to see me in January this year in anticipation of her wedding next month. 💒

Her main concerns were:

As part of your 90 minute New Patient Consultation, I review your entire medical history, medications, concerns and expectations. I perform a full facial assessment and advise you of the best approach to freshen you up. This is almost always a combination approach so that we can target all the different layers of the tissues.

Hosted: The Conversations

The real beauty of Hosted Aesthetics is that the conversations and learning are not limited to the time you spend in the conference hall.

You might be sat over lunch with another ambitious clinic owner who already has the device, technology or service you are considering, and be able to ask them for their honest, real-life feedback.

Then later, over dinner, you might find yourself sat with the representatives from that same company, having a relaxed and open conversation about whether it would suit your clinic, your patient demographic and, most importantly, your patients’ individual needs.

That part has been utterly invaluable.

I arrived with certain ideas about what I thought would be the right next steps for the clinic. But after speaking to other practitioners, hearing their experiences, and asking more informed questions, I have actually changed direction on some of the products, devices and services I was considering.

And that is exactly why this event has been so valuable.

It has helped me think even more carefully about choosing the right treatments, products and services to elevate both patient experience and patient results at Dr Rebecca Aesthetics & Medical.

After the most wonderful four days at Hosted Aesthetics Malta this week, surrounded by 80 incredible clinic owners - mostly women - this felt very appropriate to post.

I have to genuinely commend Courtney and Joe on such a thoughtful, tailored and completely on-point selection process.

The group of clinic owners they brought together was exceptional. Everyone I spoke to was warm, friendly, open and incredibly generous with their knowledge. People shared so honestly about their clinics, their growth, their finances, their pain points, and the systems and processes that have helped them along the way.

That level of transparency is rare in any business, but especially in aesthetics, where historically there can sometimes be a reluctance to share too openly.

That was not the case here.

It was such a beautiful group of wonderful women.

And men, of course !

I see lots of examples on Instagram of 13ml, 14ml, 15ml + filler treatments. And whilst these can be incredibly transformative, I personally feel that we have to be cautious with the amount of filler that is used in the face.

❔Why?

Well because hyaluronic acid is very hydrophilic- meaning it absorbs a lot of water.

So patients who:
❌ have repeated huge volumes of filler or
❌ patients who keep having more and more filler put in their face

…start to look extremely overfilled, puffy and distorted in the in the face. These patients often don’t realise that they’re grossly disrupting their natural anatomy.

So here is a perfect example of how we can freshen you using the tiniest amount of filler, with absolutely no fear of overfilling the face.

This 32 year old patient of mine naturally has a face that looks much younger than she is, although she was starting to see the signs of ageing.

One of the first areas in which we see aging in the face is the area known as the midface. The mid face is that area of the face just in line with the pupil and to the side of the nose (the ‘apples’ of the cheeks). As we age, we start to look a little bit flatter or more recessed in that region.

The reason for this is that the fat pads in our face start to lose their volume and slide down the face, which creates a hollowing which can make us look drawn and tired. 🫩

By using a small amount of conservative and safely placed filler to restore that hollowed region, I can make you look well-rested and fresher.

⭐️ Less is more, and the best approach is to work WITH your natural anatomy, rather than stuffing your face with huge volumes of hydrophilic filler in an unwise attempt to escape the aging process.

Some patients need more filler than others, but I promise you that you will never look overfilled on my watch! 🙅🏽‍♀️

Contrary to popular belief, the people who have aesthetic treatments aren’t trying to change who they are. Certainly my patient demographic is not trying to change who they are.

In 9 years of practicing aesthetic medicine, I know that my patients are quietly confident, strong women (and men) who feel that their inner reserve has been knocked by the day-to-day stresses of life.

My patients are often juggling careers, life, family commitments, children and aging parents, while trying to hold everything else together.

In the midst of all this, we’re also trying to look after our own health and be aligned with who we feel we are inside.
And a huge part of feeling aligned with who we are inside is that…
🌟when we look in the mirror, our reflection reflects who we feel we are🌟

If we look in the mirror and see someone who looks tired, or lined, or heavy, that does not align with that strong, wonderful, yet tired person we are inside.

I feel that as soon as you give someone a little bit of confidence by changing their outward appearance, it can then start a cascade of confidence that gives people the extra bit of resilience and belief to go out there and continue being the bad ass b*tch that they are! 🙌🏽

Real ‘natural’ Lip Enhancement!

This absolutely stunning 26 year old travelled to see me after finding my work on Instagram and doing her research. She had never had any treatment before and her absolute priority was natural, subtle lips. She said:

👉🏼 “I don’t want them to look ‘done’.”

This is music to my ears because I always tell my patients that my priority is to respect your natural anatomy, enhance your beauty, and never distort it.

During her 90-minute appointment, we:
✔️ Took a full medical history
✔️ Talked through her wider health and skincare
✔️ Numbed her lips (she chose numbing cream, though I also offer dental block)
✔️ Selected a beautifully soft Vivacy Stylage filler
✔️ Treated her lips entirely with a cannula (no needles) - which means minimal swelling, minimal bruising, and a safer technique in the right hands.

Her lips were enhanced by smoothing the upper lip and gently restoring volume at the natural tubercles. Her bottom lip was also softly balanced, giving her youthful, juicy-yet-natural lips that simply highlight her own beauty.

I don’t do conveyor belt lips. Every single treatment is bespoke. There is no rush - I obsess over every millimetre to achieve the best, most natural results possible.

Patient are sometimes surprised when I mention that the best technique to enhance their lips is with a cannula. They imagine the kind of cannula that is used in hospitals and inserted into the back of the hand to deliver intravenous medication.
And whilst that’s correct, that is a cannula, there is also a different type of cannula that we use in aesthetic medicine.

The cannula that we use in aesthetic medicine is essentially a long, but blunt-ended needle; instead of having the ‘hole’ at the tip, it is located just to the very side of the tip- the actual end of the cannula is completely blunt.

This means that when used very gently, the cannula gently moves tissues to the side, rather than piercing straight through them.

As a result there is, in my experience, much less trauma to the tissues, therefore much less swelling and bruising.

Also when used very gently, because of the blunt nature of the cannula, it is considered to be safer than needle because the cannula is more likely to nudge any vessels out of the way, rather than pierce through them as a needle would.

Of course there are times when a needle is the preferred choice, and quite often I use a combination of needle and cannula to achieve the result that I want- it all depends on your anatomy and the goal of treatment.
