I spent 32 years in the financial markets in London. Wake Up. Commute. Desk. Screen. Commute. Repeat.

I now spend my days as an osteopath in Chelmsford — and I can tell you that lifestyle leaves a mark on your spine that most people don't notice until it's already well established.

That mark has a name: kyphosis. A rounded, hunched upper back caused by years of sitting forward, looking down at screens, and neglecting the muscles that hold you upright.

The thing that surprises most of my patients?

Up to 40% of adults over 60 have significant spinal curvature — and the angle increases by around 3 degrees every decade. By the time you notice it in the mirror, it's usually been forming for years.

The good news is that for most people, early-stage kyphosis can be genuinely improved. Not just managed — improved. Stronger posterior muscles, regular posture resets throughout the day, and a few targeted exercises can make a difference.

I've written a full guide on my website covering what drives it, the exercises that work, what to avoid if you have low bone density, and when it's time to get a proper assessment.

Link in bio — or if you'd rather just have a quick chat first, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. No obligation, just a straight conversation.

💭 A principle that guides my work as an osteopath:

I do not treat symptoms.
I do not treat diagnoses.
I do not treat body parts.

I treat people.

Every person who comes into my clinic has their own story, lifestyle, challenges, and goals.

That’s why understanding the whole person is just as important as understanding where it hurts.

When was the last time you felt truly listened to by a healthcare professional?

🫪🫪 .. Interesting Fact Time

Did you know that 3 tablespoons of regular ketchup has more sugar than a glazed donut?

Not sure about you, but when I see a donut, I instantly know it’s going to naughty, but nice.

But ketchup?

On average, one donut ≈ 10g sugar.

While 3 tbs’s of ketchup ≈ 12g+ sugar.

There are some caveats, such as the brand and size etc, but hopefully you get the point ..

Anyway, it’s kind of crazy how we consciously avoid some foods, yet forget about how hidden sugars in everyday condiments can quietly and quickly add up.

This is why checking labels matters more than we think.

Have you ever heard the ancient Roman phrase mens sana in corpore sano?

It translates as “sound mind in a sound body” ..

And science is now showing just how literally true that is ..

According to research, it seems that every time you go for a run, lift weights, or even take a brisk walk, your muscles release chemical messengers straight into your bloodstream that cross into your brain and physically change it.

We’re talking new neurons, stronger memory, better mood, and real protection against diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

One molecule in particular — called BDNF — acts like fertilizer for your brain cells. Exercise is one of the most powerful ways to boost it.

And that euphoric feeling after a long run? Turns out it’s not just endorphins like we always thought — your brain’s own cannabis-like system (endocannabinoids) plays a huge role. 🌿

Even more fascinating: being sedentary isn’t just “not exercising” — it actively changes your DNA in harmful ways.

Just nine days of bed rest can trigger metabolic changes that don’t fully reverse even after weeks of retraining.

🧠💪 Your muscles are literally talking to your brain — and the conversation is incredible.

You don’t need to run a marathon. Regular, moderate movement is what counts. 🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️🏊‍♀️
