I think the first thing to say is yes there is medical misogyny, Iāve worked in female health since 1995 in many different roles. GP, obs and gynae, family planning and as sexual offence forensic examiner. Last year I went to a womenās health symposium, it was meltingly hot which is why Iām thinking about this on our hottest ever bank holiday. All the presentations had a caveat, speakers opinion not evidence basedā¦..
So what am I getting at here??? Every oneās menopause journey is different (ranging from oh was that it, to horrid horrid symptoms that affect everything) and I wish we had better diagnostic tools, medication and treatment pathways available on the NHS but we donāt. Itās a battle to prescribe testosterone!
From a purely personal point of view Iām going to focus on my skin. I fell off Norse age 48 and broke my ankle (trod on by another pony so for once Norse is blameless) My periods stopped, no discussion, no warning, boom, done!
Many bit and bobs of me changed, we wonāt mention moustache growthā¦. however my face didnāt fall apart, I didnāt need drastic intervention, just carried on with Profhilo, fillers, botox and SPF 50. This is me today age 55 and a half. I donāt look 21 but think I look ok for my age. What am I waffling on about I hear you all sigh.
Life is fine after the menopause, donāt panic despite what social media says and no periods or PMS is an absolute delight. Iām seeing so much aggghhh your face will fall apart as you hit the perimenopause, use this this this oh and this. Moderation as always is the key.
Love to hear all your thoughts and experience regarding the menopause which as one of my male colleagues said āitās just hot flushes isnāt itā
Over and out kiddos.
