Clear blue skies made for a beautiful day on the water. ☀️

Residents recently enjoyed a canal boat trip with The Willow Trust, setting off from Saul Junction and cruising along the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal towards Purton.

A few also took to the wheel and had a go at steering the boat themselves, making the experience even more memorable.

The Willow Trust is a charity run by volunteers who give their time to create accessible boating experiences, and we’re very grateful to them for making the trip possible.

The gentle pace of the canal made for a wonderfully relaxing day, with time to enjoy the calm and freedom that comes from being on the water.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for such a lovely day. 🩷

We think we may have found a new favourite Oakhaven Residential Care Home outing! 🚲🩷

Last week, some of our residents headed to Blackbridge Athletics Track in Gloucester for an inclusive cycling session with Wheels for All and Goals Beyond Grass.

With a range of adapted cycles to try, everyone had the chance to get involved and enjoy the fun and sense of freedom that comes with being on a bike, something many of our residents hadn’t experienced for years.

There were smiles all round, plenty of laughter and, by the time we returned to Oakhaven, everyone was already asking when we could go back.

Getting out and about, trying different things and spending time together are all part of life at Oakhaven, and judging by the smiles, this is one outing we’ll definitely be doing again!

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making it such a wonderful day.

We recently received this lovely review from the daughter of one of our residents, who first came to Oakhaven Residential Care Home for respite care following a period of illness. 🩷

She shared how welcome her mum felt from the day she arrived and how much she enjoyed her bright room overlooking the garden.

What began as a temporary stay later became permanent, and it was lovely to hear that her experience exceeded both her and her family’s expectations.

As a former nurse and carer herself, she praised the standard of care and our 'wonderful' team, rating Oakhaven excellent across every category.

Thank you for your kind words and for trusting us with your mum’s care.

Last week, residents gathered around the table for an afternoon of arts and crafts.

Using small pieces of coloured paper and a long sheet of lining paper, everyone worked on their own section of a mosaic before the individual pieces were brought together to create one large collage.

There was no theme or set design. The idea was simply to enjoy being creative, see where it led and watch the finished piece take shape.

Our young volunteer, Flo, joined us with her mum, helping residents with the activity and enjoying plenty of conversation along the way.

The photographs do not quite do the finished collage justice. It turned out beautifully, but the afternoon itself was just as special, with lots of residents around the table being creative and enjoying each other's company. 🎨🩷

Nothing quite compares to hearing the ice cream van arrive. 🍦🎶

There is something wonderfully nostalgic about the familiar chimes, stepping outside to join the queue and choosing a favourite summer treat.

The van brought plenty of excitement to Oakhaven Residential Care Home, with residents gathering on the porch to choose their ice creams and enjoy the occasion together.

For residents who do not often venture far, having the experience brought right to the door made it even more special.

The ice cream van has been such a hit that this was its second visit, with another two already scheduled before the summer draws to a close.

Alongside our activities and outings, moments like these help make every day enjoyable, bringing people together and creating happy memories for our residents.

Moving into residential care doesn’t have to mean losing the freedom to make everyday choices.

At Oakhaven Residential Care Home, residents are supported to remain as independent as possible, in ways that feel right for them.

That might mean taking a stroll on their own, spending time in the garden, choosing how to spend their day, joining an activity or enjoying some quiet time instead.

Residents can welcome family and friends, keep familiar routines and make their room feel like home with treasured photographs, favourite bedding and personal belongings.

We take the time to get to know each person, so they can keep their independence while having the support they need.

It is all part of helping people feel comfortable, confident and at home.

Yesterday, residents enjoyed a summer’s day out in Broadway, often described as the 'Jewel of the Cotswolds'. ☀️🌳

We were lucky to have beautiful weather for a gentle stroll around the picturesque village.

As we arrived, we were welcomed by two people from Broadway Museum dressed in historical costume, making for a lovely start to the day.

Some residents relaxed in the cool shade beneath an oak tree, while others enjoyed browsing the village shops before everyone met up again at Russell’s for a traditional fish-and-chip lunch.

With fresh air, beautiful surroundings, good food and great company, it was a wonderful day out, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Seashells by the seashore 🐚🎨

Last week, residents enjoyed an arts and crafts session inspired by the coast, decorating seashells with paint and decoupage.

With plenty of colours and patterns to choose from, every shell was completely unique.

Residents were delighted with what they had created, and we think you’ll agree the finished results were beautiful.

Arts and crafts are about so much more than the finished piece. They encourage creativity, help keep minds active and give residents the chance to enjoy a relaxed, sociable activity together.
