☀️ GLASSES + HOT WEATHER = BE CAREFUL! 👓

We’re all enjoying a bit of sunshine, but your glasses might not be quite so keen on the heat!

A few simple ways to look after your specs when temperatures rise:

🚗 Don’t leave them in a hot car – especially on the dashboard. Extreme heat can damage lens coatings and can even cause frames to warp.

🏖️ Keep them in their case – popping them loose into a beach bag is an excellent way to collect sand, scratches and sun cream!

🧴 Watch the sun cream – it can be surprisingly tough on frames and lenses. If it gets on your glasses, give them a proper clean rather than leaving it to bake on.

💦 Rinse before you rub – if you’ve been at the beach, rinse off any sand, salt or grit before cleaning your lenses to avoid scratches.

And remember… glasses need sun protection too! 😎

If you've ever called us, emailed us, sent us a Facebook message or popped into the practice, chances are you've already met Carrie!

One of the friendly faces you'll see on reception, Carrie helps keep the practice running smoothly, whether she's booking appointments, answering your questions, helping you choose your new glasses or keeping our social media up to date.

Having recently qualified as an Optical Advisor, she's always keen to learn more and enjoys helping patients find the right solution for their eye care needs.

If she doesn't know the answer, she'll find someone who does! Carrie loves solving problems, keeping everything organised and making sure every patient feels welcome from the moment they walk through the door.

When it comes to frames, the bigger and bolder, the better! 👓

If you've ever needed a second opinion on which frames suit you best, chances are you've met Carole!

As the daughter of our founder, who established Smith & Swepson back in 1978, Carole has been part of the practice's story for decades and continues to be at the heart of what makes it so special.

With years of experience and an incredible eye for style, Carole has a real talent for helping patients find frames that not only suit their face but also reflect their personality. She's wonderfully honest, knows exactly what works, and isn't afraid to steer you towards the pair you'll love for years to come.

Over the years, Carole has built an incredibly loyal following, and it's easy to see why. Patients return time and time again not just for her expert advice, but because she makes choosing glasses feel effortless.

Thanks to your generosity, we raised money for the Eyecare Trust – a fantastic charity doing invaluable work to support people with sight loss and eye conditions.

Congratulations to our lucky winners, young George and his brother, who were absolutely delighted to take home the football! We hope it brings you hours of fun (and perhaps a few future World Cup dreams!).

Amy our Prescribing Optometrist. She's caring, incredibly thorough, and exceptionally knowledgeable, always taking the time to make sure every patient receives the very best care. Simply put, she's brilliant at what she does.

But it doesn't stop there...

When she's not looking after patients with us, she's also working at the hospital, and if that wasn't enough, she's Chair of the Local Optical Committee (LOC), helping to shape eye care services across the county.

Outside of work, Amy swaps the consulting room for the stables with her horse, enjoys a swim whenever she can, and somehow still finds time to lose herself in a good book.

We're honestly not sure if Amy has discovered the secret to adding extra hours to the day... but if anyone has, it would be her! 😄

We're incredibly lucky to have her leading our team and know our patients feel the same.

Meet the wonderful Felicia – our front-of-house receptionist and accountant extraordinaire!

She's the friendly face who'll welcome you through the door, help with your appointments, answer your questions, and make sure you've signed all the right forms.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Felicia is one of the kindest, warmest people you could ever hope to meet. She has a lovely way of putting everyone at ease and always greets our patients with a smile.

Behind the scenes, she's also the one keeping our accounts in order – which means if the lights are on, the bills have been paid, and the numbers all add up, you can probably thank Felicia! 😉

Can you believe Hazel has been with us for nearly a year already?

As one of our Optical Advisors, Hazel has become an invaluable member of the Smith & Swepson family. She's always on hand to offer a warm welcome, helpful advice, and outstanding customer care.

She's also our resident glasses repair whizz! Whether your frames need a little TLC, an adjustment, or a clever fix, Hazel loves the challenge and has a real knack for getting your glasses back to their best.

With her cheerful personality and great sense of humour, it's easy to see why both our patients and the team love having her around.

Little faces, big difference 👓✨

Fitting children’s glasses isn’t just about picking a cute frame (although we love that part 💕)… it’s about making sure they actually work.

A proper fit means:
• The eyes are sitting in the correct position in the lenses
• The frame is secure and comfortable (no slipping down little noses!)
• The child can see clearly in all directions
• The glasses stay put during play, school, and everything in between

Children adapt quickly—but only if the glasses are fitted properly from the start. A poor fit can affect vision, comfort, and whether they even want to wear them.

We take the time to get it right, making small adjustments that make a big difference 💫

Because when glasses fit well… kids forget they’re even wearing them—and that’s exactly what we want.
