Have you been sitting at your desk for a while? Time for a quick wriggle.

Chin Tucks
Sit tall and gently draw your chin straight back (think “making a double chin”). Hold for 2–3 seconds and repeat 10 times.

Seated Thoracic Rotations
Cross your arms over your chest and slowly rotate your upper body left and right, keeping your hips facing forwards. 8–10 reps each side.

Shoulder Rolls
Roll your shoulders up, back and down in a slow, controlled motion. Repeat 10–15 times, then reverse the direction.

Seated Cat-Camel
Round your back, then gently arch it, moving one vertebra at a time. Repeat for 10–15 slow reps.

Ankle Pumps
While seated, alternate lifting your toes and then your heels. Continue for 30–60 seconds to encourage ankle movement and circulation.

Is your training intensity leaving you feeling run down, struggling to recover, or dealing with setbacks that make consistency difficult?

Finding the right balance between challenge and recovery is key. Your body needs time to adapt, rebuild, and become stronger.

Consistency comes from creating a routine you can maintain - one that supports your goals while reducing the risk of injury and burnout.

A muscle tear occurs when the force placed on a muscle exceeds the amount it can tolerate.

Physiotherapy plays a key role in recovery by gradually rebuilding the muscle’s capacity, strength and resilience - helping it cope with the demands you place on it in the future.

At our Cheltenham city centre clinic, Wilson uses diagnostic ultrasound to see your injury in real time, identify the extent of the damage, treat with precision, and monitor your progress throughout your recovery.

No guesswork. A clearer understanding of what’s happening beneath the surface, combined with a targeted rehabilitation plan.

If you suspect you’ve experienced a muscle tear, book an ultrasound diagnostics session with Wilson today and take the first step towards a confident recovery.

Wilson is passionate about helping you build the confidence to manage your condition for the long term. Patients shouldn’t have to rely on their practitioner forever. Instead, they should become empowered and educated to manage their own recovery and help prevent their injury from recurring.

Wilson is available on Tuesdays & Wednesdays in our Cheltenham practice.

Our bodies are designed to move. Whether you’re working at a desk, driving, or relaxing at home, sitting for periods of time isn’t necessarily harmful. The challenge comes when we stay in the same position for too long without changing posture or moving.

Try thinking about...

✓ Changing positions regularly
✓ Standing up every 30–60 minutes
✓ Taking short walking breaks
✓ Stretching during the day
✓ Using stairs when possible
✓ Walking while making phone calls
✓ Finding opportunities to move that fit naturally into your routine

Pain on the thumb side of your wrist when lifting, gripping, or twisting? It could be De Quervain’s tenosynovitis - a common condition affecting the tendons around the thumb.

It’s especially common in people who:

* Repeatedly lift children or babies
* Use keyboards, phones, or tools frequently
* Play racquet sports or golf
* Perform repetitive hand and wrist movements at work

The good news is that De Quervain’s is usually very treatable with physiotherapy.

Treatment may include:

* Reducing irritation and inflammation
* Improving wrist and thumb mobility
* Strengthening the surrounding muscles and tendons
* Activity and ergonomic advice to prevent recurrence

In some cases, Focused Shockwave Therapy can also help by stimulating tissue healing, reducing pain, and supporting recovery in stubborn or longer-term cases.

26/05/2026

Strength training doesn’t have to happen in a gym to be effective. Building strength through simple, consistent movement - whether using bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, walking, or functional everyday movements - can have a powerful impact on overall health and wellbeing.

Functional strength supports the way we move every day, helping make tasks like lifting, carrying, climbing stairs, and staying active feel easier and more confident. It can also help improve mobility, balance, posture, and joint support while building resilience throughout the body.

Importantly, strength training is highly accessible. Effective adaptations occur when the body is exposed to consistent, progressive challenge over time, regardless of whether that challenge comes from gym equipment or everyday movement. With appropriate progression and regular practice, even low-cost or home-based exercise approaches can produce meaningful improvements in strength, physical resilience, energy levels, confidence, and long-term independence.
