A stranger stopped me in my tracks and gave me permission to slow 🐌

Ever the rule follower, I did what I was told. 🐌

I'm so grateful to have had the slowest half term. My children go the memo, they needed slow too. 🐌

We're going to try taking slow with us into the last half term of the academic year. I can feel the muscle memory of my body going into brace mode as this half term is notoriously bonkers. πŸ₯΄

If you need permission to stop rushing or go slow, take this as your nudge. 🐌

A lesson I learnt from a child this week...

Inner child and judgment chat from the wisdom of a (primary school) child πŸ’‘

Kids are amazing.

Just taking a sweet minute.

A minute in the day and an extended minute in life.

When I took this photo, I had had such a distracted and disjointed day. There has been so much need recently from all angles with the push and pull of life feeling quite intense at times.

When I took this photo, on this disjointed, disconnected day, I was watching a family of robins in the garden, just outside of the wellbeing pod. Those little robins had been such a distraction from the work and endless post-it notes and to do lists. Yet, they were so grounding and connecting.

During one of my 1:1 sessions in school, I used the robins as part of the session. The child came to me with high shoulders and so I pointed out the little bird family. We watched for half a session. It is no surprise that the child's shoulders lowered and I could feel mine doing the same.

I often feel I should post more on here, always wanting there to be a point. But, in actual fact. That's not the purpose of my work. The purpose is in the reflections for both myself and the children or clients that I see.

And so, here is a reflection. Without any point. Just wanting to post, just because.

In Drawing and Talking, you can draw whatever you like. You can talk about whatever you like. The space is yours and I will hold it for you. 🀝🏻

Today has been such a reflection of 'Conflict Stage' - the middle stage of Drawing and Talking.

Today, several sessions brought a lot of death to the paper. Dead things, dying, killing. Which believe it or not, is all completely NORMAL. I am not remotely phased by this. Why would I be? It's not real. It's drawings.

THEN πŸ‘‡πŸ»

On the flip side to these sessions, I was also bought a lot of talking of the positive impact that Drawing & Talking sessions have brought so far. ☺️

The highs and lows, ebbs and flows and all that's inbetween during a period of processing and healing. 🫢🏻

Is it hard? Yes, it can be. Is it magical? Yes, it can be? Two things can be true at once. 🫢🏻✨️

My Sunday night looks like this:
A family calendar, a school diary, a work planner… and a brain full of everyone else’s needs.

That, as well as the adjustment back to school, is a lot.

If yours looks the same, this is your sign that you’re not alone.

We’re all juggling more than anyone sees.

Let’s step into the week with gentleness β€” not pressure? (She says... for herself!)

I'm off to watch David Attenborough followed by The Antiques Roadshow - because it's Sunday πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

It's hard to put into words what this little place does for me 🌊

There is just something about the sea. For me, to be specific, the more North Devon the sea is, the better πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

A few days by the sea has been the reset that my mind and body needed...
Just wish I was still there!

From sea-glass hunting to clambering over rock pools. From soggy welly boots to pasties galore. From skimming stones to Cornettos' for breakfast. From three beaches in one day to sandy, salty, sea wavy hair. From my children's belly laughs and excited squeals to the husb sea swimming. From sketching in the shingle to discovering beach treasure.

The healing powers of Vitamin Sea.

Sigh.

Hello April. We've got a little bit of work to do together πŸ’ͺ🏻

"By the end of April, Harriet will achieve 65% of her targets by getting a hold of herself and blummin well going for it. Progress will be evident in her energy, day to day mood and productivity."

πŸ˜‚

Sorry if this triggers SMART targets and MyPlan reviews (it does to me 🀒, blaming the day job.)

Anyway, let's go, April πŸ™ŒπŸ»βœ¨οΈπŸ«ΆπŸ»

I have such strong memories of making daisy chains as a child. I can literally place myself on my primary school field making chains with my friends. So innocent and gentle and connecting in so many ways. I can smell the grass and feel the school summer dress material.

I love a hit of nostalgia. I love how it can have the power to reset the nervous system in the way it releases dopamine and oxytocin.

I felt such calm and warmth making that little daisy chain (necklace for my son), it got me thinking what else I can do to wake up some playful nostalgia...

And so, I'm off to...

- skim stones 🌊
- make friendship bracelets 🌈
- sew some seeds 🌱
- listen to music from 20+ years ago 🎢
- draw a picture and colour it with Crayola crayons πŸ–
- collect scented gel pens (can still smell the blueberry, popcorn and bubble gum ones) πŸ–Š
- buy a Tipp-Ex pocket mouse
- a roly poly (aka a forward role, may break my back) πŸ€ΈπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

What would you do to wake up some playful nostalgia? πŸ€ΉπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Also, please tell me you all make a point of reading the memorial plaque on benches? - Neil sounded like a really cool guy.

Still on a high from the Let's Talk Well conference yesterday πŸ’œ

Spending a whole day surrounded by like minded, passionate and empowering people. Listening to incredible speakers, hearing young people speak of their experiences of school and their mental as a ND... oof 😳

I came away with so many scribbled notes and take aways. I'm now letting everything sink in, taking time to digest what I've heard ✨️

Very much looking forward to seeing what I can put into action in school and life, whilst spreading the word and banging the drum of neurodiversity and mental health πŸ₯

Thank you
