Counselling for Families

Counselling for Families Counselling for Couples, Parents & Carers, Teenagers and ages 9 to Adult in Cheltenham and Online.

Parents and Carers sometimes have little time to think of themselves whilst caring for special needs children or a disabled, sick and dependant relative. Counselling is an opportunity for you to think and gain clarity and say the things you can't tell someone else and be really listened to and deeply understood. So often the cared for person is being well looked after by professionals, but you may feel you need someone to talk to.

🌿 Are you surviving your relationship rather than truly living in it?

Many women in neurodivergent relationships spend so much energy adapting, accommodating, managing misunderstandings, and holding everything together that their own needs become lost along the way.

You may love your partner deeply, yet still feel exhausted, lonely, unseen, emotionally stretched, or disconnected from who you once were.
If this sounds familiar, this workshop is for you.

💚 Workshops for Women in Neurodivergent Relationships
📅 Friday 26th June
🕙 10:00am – 12:00 noon
💻 Online via Zoom

Topic: Self-Care Beyond Survival Mode

Self-care is more than bubble baths and taking a break.
For many women in neurodivergent relationships, true self-care means learning how to stop abandoning yourself in order to keep the relationship functioning.

Together we will explore:
✨ What happens when you spend years putting your own needs, feelings, and wellbeing last
✨ How chronic stress, hypervigilance, emotional labour, and relationship burnout affect your nervous system
✨ Why you may feel guilty for having needs, setting boundaries, or wanting more emotional connection
✨ The difference between self-care, self-sacrifice, and self-abandonment
✨ How to reconnect with your own identity, values, needs, and voice
✨ Practical ways to regulate your nervous system and move from surviving to thriving
✨ Boundaries that protect your wellbeing without creating unnecessary conflict
✨ Letting go of self-blame and recognising that your experiences make sense
You will also gain:
💫 A clearer understanding of neurodivergent relationship dynamics
💫 Language for things you've experienced but struggled to explain
💫 Greater confidence in expressing your needs
💫 Practical communication tools that reduce overwhelm
💫 Validation, understanding, and connection with women who truly "get it"
💫 Relief from constantly wondering, "Is it just me?"
This is not about blaming your partner.
This is not about fixing you.
It's about creating space for your wellbeing, your voice, and your growth.
🤍 You deserve more than survival mode.

🌸 A Little Bit of Life Outside Work

Balance matters too…

Recently Julie has been spending time visiting with family (including having her adult children home), a Rick Astley concert with her husband, and even tackling the garden and kitchen cupboards.

Finding moments to unwind with:
• Interior Design Masters
• Help! I Bought a House at Auction
• A bit of true crime

And of course—lots of time with Oscar, Julie's 10-year-old Maine C**n (still very much a kitten at heart 🐾)
Small moments, big impact.

Themes from the therapy room...

Some key areas that kept showing up in sessions:
• Communication & connection in neurodiverse couples
• Emotional regulation strategies
• Teen anxiety (school, exams, identity)
• Masking, belonging & understanding autism/ADHD
• Navigating family relationships & life stress

These conversations matter—and meaningful change often starts right here. 💛

Stress often becomes a loop:

Parent feels overwhelmed → reacts quickly → child becomes dysregulated → behaviour escalates → parent feels more stressed → repeat

Understanding this cycle and how neurodivergence affects it is a powerful first step—not to blame yourself, but to gently interrupt the pattern.
