Musical Therapy in Dementia

Music for Memories Charity very kindly provided Anne a resident from Whittington House with a bespoke playlist, drawn from her musical history and delivered through a specifically adapted headset.

As you can see the smile on Anne's face tells us all how familiar songs can lift mood and spark memories long thought lost. Anne is a big part of our community at Whittington House and music plays a very important part in her general day to day wellbeing.

A big thank you for Anne for being part of our photo shoot and Music for Memories kindly providing the headset.

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming Tatiana Hnilytska a talented violinist for her very first performance at our care home.

Tatiana learnt to play the violin in the Ukraine and since moving to the UK with her husband Boris has been bringing joy and warmth with her performances to many. It was just what the doctor ordered for the afternoon, beautiful music, chilled drinks and relaxing outside in the shaded garden.

We would like to thank Tatiana for visiting and look forward to her next visit.

Veteran Friendly Framework - Coffee Morning

We had a wonderful opportunity to visit the Order of St John Care Home in Cheltenham last week, Monkscroft where we took two of our Veterans to a coffee morning where they were able to meet other veterans.

Memories with a few entertaining stories were shared between everyone and we are always very grateful for their service and the example they set for future generations.

In the picture Left to right Andrea Williams, Peter Blake (Whittington House Care Home) Terry Lindop (Monkscroft Care Home) and John Ayres (Whittington House).

John and Peter said what a wonderful morning they had and are looking forward to the next coffee morning which will be held at Whittington House Care Home.
Date and time will be confirmed in a few weeks time and we welcome all veterans to come along and enjoy complimentary refreshments in a relaxed and homely environment and share more stories with all our veterans.

Care Home Open Week

During Care Home Open Week we held our Country and Western Summer Fair.

It was a wonderful afternoon with a delicious barbeque cooked by our Chef which was enjoyed by everyone followed by a selection of delicious cakes.

Musical entertainment was provided by miniconcerts who sang a collection of country songs, whilst everyone could enjoy a browse around the garden stalls. We even had a visit from our regular tortoise 'Kevin' who enjoyed munching his way through the grass and is a firm favourite with the residents.

Thank you to all the Stall holders and wider community who supported our event. We would also like to give a big thank you to Sewaday Charity, Cheltenham who kindly came along for the afternoon with soft drinks.

We hope you enjoy browsing through the photographs and will keep you posted on our next event.
