πŸ’™ National Grief Awareness Day – 30 August

Grief is something we all experience differently, and for many families, the journey continues long after the funeral has taken place.

At Church View, we understand that there is no right or wrong way to grieve, and no set amount of time. We welcome open discussion about grief and bereavement, whether that means sharing memories, talking about how you’re feeling, or simply knowing that someone is there to listen.

Today, we want to remind anyone who is grieving that you don’t have to face it alone. Be kind to yourself, take things one day at a time, and remember that it’s okay to talk.

Thinking of all those missing someone special today. πŸ•ŠοΈ

Who is a funeral for ?
A funeral can be an act of love for the person who died. A chance to honour their life, their stories, their relationships, their particular and irreplaceable way of being in the world.

And: it’s also an act of care for the living.
For the people who need somewhere to put their grief. Somewhere to gather. To hear the name spoken aloud in a room full of people who loved them. To tell the stories. To cry and laugh and witness together:
This person existed.οΏ½This has happened.οΏ½Our world has changed.

Us humans have been gathering around our dead for thousands of years. Not because there is one right way to do a funeral. But because humans have always understood something we sometimes forget:
Gathering matters. Especially in grief.

A funeral doesn’t have to be beige or expensive or solemn or β€˜rushed into a thirty minute slot as some suggest . It just needs to be meaningful enough to hold what has actually happened.

So maybe the question isn’t β€œdo you want a funeral?”
Maybe the question is:
How would you like your people to gather when you die?

Today we said goodbye to a much-loved family man who had a lifelong connection with motorbikes. 🏍️

With the help of our friends and colleagues Motorcycle Funerals Limited we were honoured to fulfil his final wishes and convey him to the crematorium aboard a beautiful Triumph Bonneville Hearse, expertly ridden by Mark

Every person is unique, and so should their funeral be. We believe that saying goodbye should reflect the life, personality and wishes of the person being remembered.

At Church View Funeral Service, we are proud to be members of SAIF (The National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors) and NAFD (The National Association of Funeral Directors), upholding the highest standards of professional, compassionate care.

We are regularly inspected and voluntarily regulated under the UK Funeral Director Code. Families who choose Church View can also access an independent complaints process through SAIF, delivered by an externally audited and Chartered Trading Standards Institute-certified body.

Every family deserves complete confidence that their loved one will be treated with dignity, respect, and the utmost care. We support proportionate regulation that protects families while recognising the high standards already maintained by independent funeral directors across the country.

For three generations our commitment has remained the same: to care for every person entrusted to us as if they were one of our own.

Is it coming home?

With tonight’s football match in mind, we thought we’d share this special football-themed floral tribute.

It’s often the little personal touches that mean the most, helping to create a funeral service that truly reflects a loved one’s life, passions, and personality.

For many families, bespoke floral tributes inspired by a favourite hobby, sport, or interest are a beautiful way to celebrate the person they are remembering.

We know that statement can feel surprising.
But funerals aren't really about the day itself.

They're about gathering.
Sharing stories.
Saying thank you.
Saying goodbye.

They're about creating space for grief, love, laughter, tears, and memories.

Every farewell looks different because every life is different.

And that's exactly how it should be.

Battle of the Somme
1st July 1916

At 7.30am on 1st July 1916, whistles were blown along a line of British soldiers.

Thousands of men then climbed on to what was known as no man's land. Many would never return.

On the opening day of the attack 19,240 British soldiers were killed and more than 38,000 were wounded.

More than three million men fought in the battle and one million men were wounded or killed, making it one of the bloodiest battles in human history.

We Will Remember Them

In a town where some of the old names
have disappeared, where familiar places now feel
a little less familiar,
one light still burns on its own.

Church View Funeral Services β€”
the independent heart of Chesham,
the place that stays true
when others trade their story
for a corporate script.

To stand alone is not a burden;
it is a badge.
It means we chose people
over profit,
community over convenience,
care over conformity.

It means families walk through our door and know exactly who they’ll meet β€” not a stranger but someone who knows your street, and your grief.

Independence gives us something
no chain can buy:
the right to care in our own way.
To take time.
To listen properly.
To honour a life
without rushing the love that surrounds it.

And in Chesham and the surrounding areas,
where every goodbye echoes
through generations, our presence becomes a promise β€”
that your community will never face loss
without one of its own
standing beside you

We are independent.
Not small β€”but singular.
Not alone β€”but trusted.
Not the last one left β€”
but the one who refused
to let care become corporate.

And that is something
worth being proud of.

Our family caring for your family.
