We have been sold a version of "having it all" that is statistically impossible. Weโve turned life into a performance review where the goal is to be a machine, not a human.
But the truth is, much of the distress we feel at the end of the day isn't a sign of failure โ itโs just the result of a math problem that doesn't add up. You cannot give 100% to your career, 100% to your family, and 100% to your health simultaneously.
When we try to meet these impossible standards, we aren't just exhausted; we are absent. We become so obsessed with checking boxes that we lose the ability to inhabit the life weโre actually living.
And this pressure doesn't stop with us. We accidentally pass it down to our children, expecting them to navigate school, sports, and social lives with the same relentless "productivity" โ and then we wonder why they aren't smiling at bedtime.
Real leadership in the home starts with the courage to call the propaganda what it is: nonsense. Itโs about choosing what to drop so you can hold onto what actually matters.
You can be a high-achieving checklist, or you can be a present human. You don't have the capacity for both. โค๏ธ
