About me - Emma
I’ve been practising Traditional Chinese Acupuncture since graduating in 2012 from the University of Lincoln with a degree in Acupuncture in after 3 years of full-time study.
My interest in acupuncture began after developing Meniere’s disease when I was a teenager. Meniere’s is a chronic condition affecting the inner ear, symptoms include vertigo, tinnitus, nausea, and deafness.
After trying everything the doctors prescribed, and being told the only other option was to surgically remove my inner ears (resulting in permanent deafness) I was willing to try anything. At the time, my aunt was a physiotherapist and recommended her acupuncturist - an amazing and highly qualified TCM doctor called Ying Liu.
After several weekly sessions of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, my symptoms began to improve. It wasn’t a linear improvement, as some weeks were better than others, but still, I regained my appetite, got back to a healthy weight, slept better, had way more energy, and my dizzy episodes got fewer and further between.
So, long story short, I’m not deaf, I completely recovered over the course of the treatment and haven’t had any episodes since. My experience inspired me to help others, and I was intrigued about how it all worked.
After graduating, I set up Mango Acupuncture, and worked to grow the business while working full time to pay the bills. A few of years later I decided to return to education and signed up for a Masters in Biomedical Science, to further inform my practice. I was still working full time and building the business, so it was very intense! Eventually I took the leap into full time acupuncture practice. Things grew very fast, and I set up another clinic to cope with the increase in clients - with the help of fellow acupuncturist, Kirsty.
When 2020 happened, I had to close the business completely. I also withdrew from my Masters, graduating with a Postgraduate Diploma instead.
When things reopened, we started offering home visits and the business grew again slowly but surely. So here I am, adapting to what life throws at us and applying the skills and expertise I’ve gained to help others as acupuncture helped me 🙏
