The "Conifers family" of Directors makes regular visits, and one of the Directors also spends a large part of her week working alongside management at the Oaklands.

Saturday 5th September was our annual residents and relatives party here at Oaklands and wow what an absolutely amazing afternoon we all had!!

With our very own Blackpool Tower, fish and chips and ice cream we brought the sea side to our very own back garden! Our residents enjoyed an early lunch of the aforementioned fish and chips or sausages and chips (both equally valid sea side fare no matter what some people may say) and finished it off with some vanilla ice cream in a cone before getting an amazing performance from Sandra who sang us classic sea side songs like I want to be beside the sea side, She sells seashells and drunken sailor amongst other classic songs that got our toes tapping and hands clapping.

Sandra gave each if our residents a sea side post card after the performance was finished and it was a perfect end to a perfect afternoon.

Thank you to everyone who attended the party, we hope you all had a smashing time!

Monday 31st August saw us closing out the month in the best way possible with a visit to to the Christleton Duck Pond!

Only a walk away the duck pond is a beautiful piece of nature that our residents love to visit and take in the animals and beautiful plants!! Feeding the birds was an important part of our visit and we made sure to use wild bird seed mix to ensure it was healthy and safe for the amazing birds we encountered.

Said birds included; mallard ducks, blackhead gulls, geese and even a pair of Muscovy ducks that wandered over to us near the end of our visit. The birds were quick to swarm the food and though we didn't get pictures, with them being too quick, but we even had some fish fighting for the food as well. And though they ate the bird seed for the most part they stayed in the shallows of the pond which was good for us because you truly don't know how big a goose or Muscovy duck are until they're right next to you!!

We truly had an amazing time and though the rain started to spit a little on our way home we got through the whole thing dry, happy and raring to go back again!

Wednesday 26th saw the Lord Mayor of Chester Councillor Margaret Parker coming to see our residents.

For a few of our residents it was a welcome surprise to see an old personal friend and for the others it was a brilliant visit from the Lord Mayor who came to tell us all about what her job entails, the ways you can become Lord Mayor and a myriad of other things about the job and Chester as a city! On top of being incredibly informative it was wonderful to meet with such an amazing lady like the Lord Mayor.

Visits like this help to keep our residents involved in the community and local culture of Chester and that helps keep our residents engaged with their home town.

Tuesday 25th of August had our residents in the garden taking advantage of the last day of the sunny weather for this week and played ball games in the garden as well as having a good old natter together.

Even simply sitting together and enjoying the good weather can be an important activity for our residents, as it ensures that they get the opportunity to socialise, get fresh air, have a little friendly competition and engage with others even if they don't normally feel up to it. And sometimes everyone just needs a relaxing day in the garden.

The last photograph on this post shows some flowers that one of our nurses brought in from her son's wedding and wanted to share with our residents.

Monday 24th was baking afternoon here at Oaklands.

Our residents flexed their baking skills and made some oaty flapjack biscuits together in the sun lounge, and had an amazing time eating the fruit or well biscuits of their labour, to which they gave themselves 5/5 stars. This rating is not a surprise this the flapjacks were already a fan favourite.

Baking, including the prep, mixing and taste testing are our department in the sun lounge with the kitchen generously doig the actual baking part but all the same we and our residents say it was a team effort.

Also seen in our photographs is a progress report on our pumpkin patch and additionally the random squash which has found it's home with us as well. When it stops raining we can check on them again if they've not sailed off down the river Dee.

Saturday 15th August was our Alice in wonderland themed cheese and w**e afternoon and what a turnout. Everyone had fun in the garden doing the trail and finding all the Alice pictures, we also went through are very own rabbit hole where residents were met with lots of Alice inspired decorations.

We know everyone had a wonderful just by the smiles on their faces, once we enjoyed the trail it's was off to the dining room for our afternoon tea.

There were a selection of cheeses and biscuits with scones and cake and also a little glass of w**e to top the day, although it was non alcoholic w**e but that didn't matter it was still drank and enjoyed by all.

We love to have fun here at Oaklands and to see the smiles and laughter from everyone made our day.

Today Thursday 13th August at Oakland's saw an absolute performance of Rock and Roll Rewind and the amazing performance contained classic hits from Elvis like Nothing but a Hounddog and Can't help loving you and other amazing rock and roll hits like Boots are Made for Walking and Nothing Unusual just to name the songs that got our residents dancing the most!!

Smiles and dancing were abound this afternoon as everyone gave the mash potato and the jive a go from their seats pulling off some impressive dance moves all the whole singing along to their hearts content!

Undeniably this afternoon was a rock and roll party here at Oaklands and we had an absolutely amazing time and loved every second of it.

Sunday 9th August fish and chips Sunday from Harry Ramsdens we had 18 residents and 30 portions of fish and chips delivered, everyone was so happy and couldn't eat them fast enough, everyone was stuffed for the rest of the afternoon so it was colouring and puzzles for the rest of the day to help our bellies rest.

We have been asked to make sure we book again for fish and chips so keep a look out for the next date.
