πŸ—£οΈ Choking - do you know how to dislodge something which is causing an airway obstruction? This guidance is taken from Resuscitation UK - their latest guidance published in December 2025.
πŸ“š We covered this in our protected learning time this week - a good reminder of how to act when someone is choking.
πŸ™ In the last 6 months, 2 members of our staff have successfully acted in choking instances in social settings outside of work time using this guidance and information.

❓Let's answer these questions we've been asked recently by patients!
πŸ—“ We are instructed by the NHS to close for half a day once a month to allow protected learning time for all our staff.
πŸ€” Often, we have planned learning events - last month clinicians attended a conference afternoon taken by consultants and specialists at The Countess of Chester - updating us on new guidelines covering a number of illnesses and conditions.
πŸ’” Today - all staff at Park Medical have completed their mandatory annual Basic Life Support (BLS) training - given and assessed by an external provider - including role play scenarios and physical practice.
πŸ‘€ Protected learning time is absolutely necessary to allow staff to have time to concentrate, dedicate attention and learn. The information we take in is important - and can help you as a patient. It's imperative we're up to date to give you the best care possible.
πŸ“± Whilst we're closed, you can use 111 for illness needing same day attention. 111 is well equipped for this - as all the surgeries in Cheshire close on a set afternoon. It is a pre-planned day which is organised over 12 months in advance.

Over the next 3 days we're going to share and summarise what we've learnt today in our protected learning time.
Basic Life Support - do you know how perform CPR on someone if they've had a heart attack?
