World Book Lovers Day at Plessington Court

Today we marked World Book Lovers Day with a wonderful discussion about the life of Agatha Christie; her remarkable career, her much‑loved mysteries, and the stories that later became films.

Residents talked about how reading has changed over the years, from traditional books to audio stories and Kindle, and we chatted about the books that teach us, inform us, and spark curiosity.

This afternoon we’ll take a gentle walk in the garden with our bird book, seeing what wildlife we can spot and continuing our conversations outdoors.

Big shout out to our team, and extra special thanks to our Wellbeing team who have made today’s garden party and an absolute pleasure to attend for all our residents and families.

Throughout Englands time in the World Cup 2026 we have decorated the home in support of the team, played some World Cup themed games, collected and completed some football stickers and of course spent lots of time watching the replays! ⚽️

We have recently launched our Baking Club here at Chapel House. Some of our bakes so far include Chocolate Fudge Cake with Fudge Icing and White Chocolate, Vanilla Sponge with Icing and Sprinkles and White Chocolate Cookies. Individual Photos of those residents involved in the club can be seen by family members.

Saturday at Chapel House, in true Wimbledon style, we have enjoyed Strawberries & Cream and a Pimms inspired mocktail 🍸 🍓 Today, Sunday Residents enjoyed Strawberries and Cream and some indoor tennis with the aid air conditioning on in Plessington Court

For Fathers Day our residents in both homes enjoyed a full English to start their day followed by a small gift and some beer in the afternoon!

Pride Month at Our Homes
Throughout early June, our residents have been enjoying a series of Pride‑themed activities that have brought colour, conversation, and plenty of smiles to our days.
We’ve spent time chatting about love in all its forms, creating bright and joyful Pride crafts, and even bringing the rainbow into our baking and sweet treats.
These moments have sparked lovely stories, thoughtful reflections, and lots of laughter — a reminder that celebrating Pride is really about celebrating people, kindness, and being free to be ourselves.
Here’s to love, inclusion, and community this month and every month.
