Mr Kenneth Burrows of Inkersall has passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital aged 83.

Born in Woodthorpe, Ken was a lifelong resident of the area. He was employed as a deputy at Ireland and then Markham Colliery until closure. He then worked at Home Express until retiring at the age of 65.

In his spare time, Ken enjoyed art, history, walking, holidays, and spending time with family and friends.

Ken leaves his wife - Rita, daughters - Alison (and partner Steve), Rachel (and husband Ashley), and Susan (and husband Matt), and nine grandchildren.

Ken's funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on Friday 3rd July at 12 noon.

Mr Robert Kenworthy of Wingerworth has passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital aged 90.

Born in Worksop, Robert had lived locally for 60 years. He was employed as an electrical engineer with the East Midlands Electricity Board for over 40 years – retiring in 1994.

Robert was a keen member of Round Table, 41 Club, and Probus. He also helped with ‘front of house’ for Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir. Other interests included bowls (a founder member of Wingerworth Bowling Club), jigsaws, crosswords, reading, railways, and the Chesterfield Canal.

Robert leaves his wife – Anne, children – John, Elizabeth, and Rachel, and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place at All Saints’ Parish Church, Wingerworth on Thursday 30th July at 11am.

Mr Nigel David Thurston of Chesterfield has passed away at home aged 59.

Born in Chesterfield, Nigel was a lifelong resident of the area. Originally an engineer at GKN Sheepbridge, he was later a lighting and sound engineer with Soundscope PA Hire.

Nigel enjoyed live music and in his younger days he was a drummer, then went on to play keyboards in ‘Cast Iron’, ‘Phoenix’ and ‘Roxberg’.

Nigel leaves his sister – Helen, brother-in-law – Neil, and nephews – Joseph and Samuel.

A private cremation will take place.

Mr Christian Mulhearn of Dronfield has died at home aged 54.

Born in Romford, Essex, Christian had lived locally for the last 13 years.

Christian was a lifelong Arsenal fan. He loved watching football and all other sports. He also enjoyed playing June’s Journey on his Ipad – his mum and dad were on the same team. First and foremost, Christian liked to spend time with his family; and dogs – Brady, Henry, and Ozzy, and pony – Billy.

Christian leaves wife – Sally, daughter – April, step-daughter – Emma (and her partner – Josh), granddaughter – Lilah, parents – Wendy and Bill, sister – Liz, brother-in-law – Richard, and many friends.

Christian’s funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on Thursday 16th July at 2:15pm.

🚨🚨🚨PURE CREMATION ADVERT BANNED BY THE ASA🚨🚨🚨

The NAFD welcomes the latest ruling by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to uphold our complaint about Pure Cremation’s misleading advert. The advert implied that an in-person funeral service was part of its standard plan, which it is not. Our complaint, one of twelve received by the ASA, highlighted that the advert was misleading.

Transparency is everything in our sector. It is important that, when people purchase “direct cremations”, they understand that they are not in-person funerals, but unattended cremations with no service.

Providing our customers with clear information on what they are buying at one of the most difficult times in life is a contract that should never be broken.

It matters because we only get one chance to say goodbye, and funerals are at the heart of that. They bring families, friends and communities together. Saying farewell in the way that our customers want helps manage the long-term impacts of grief.

It is upon all of us in the sector to ensure families understand the differences between all available options so they can make an informed choice about what matters most to them. If the people are misled about what the final moment of departure entails, it can leave an indelible mark on them for a lifetime.

Mrs Marie Cutts of Hollingwood has passed away at home aged 79.

Born in Chesterfield, Marie was a lifelong resident of the area, living at her current address for the last 56 years.

Before retiring, Marie had worked for NHS Sector Headquarters. In her spare time, she enjoyed walking her beloved labradors - she had many over the years. Marie also loved reading, coastal holidays, and supporting the Guide Dogs Charity. First and foremost, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Marie leaves her husband- Colin, children- Michael, Susan, and Dawn, and grandchildren- Alexander, Beccy, Jessica, and Alfie.

Marie's funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on Wednesday 1st July at 10:30am.
