“You used to be a nurse, didn’t you?”
It’s a question I hear often, and honestly, I understand why.
When people think of nursing, they often picture hospital wards, uniforms and traditional clinical settings. So when they see me working in aesthetics, they assume I’ve left nursing behind.
The truth is, I haven’t.
I am still a registered nurse.
Every year I renew my registration, and every three years I complete revalidation. That means demonstrating my ongoing competence through practice hours, continuing professional development, reflective learning, professional discussions and evidence that I remain safe and up to date in my practice.
These aren’t optional extras. They are professional requirements.
While my clinical environment may look different from a hospital ward, the foundations of my practice remain exactly the same.
Every consultation, assessment and treatment draws on the clinical knowledge, critical thinking, communication skills and professional accountability that nursing has given me.
Aesthetics isn't a departure from healthcare for me. It's a specialism within it.
I may not wear a navy blue dress or tunic every day, but I am still a clinician. I am still regulated. I am still accountable. And I am still committed to providing safe, ethical and evidence-based care to every patient who trusts me.
Nursing is more than a job title.
It's a profession I'm incredibly proud to belong to, and one I continue to uphold in everything I do.
I didn't stop being a nurse when I entered aesthetics. I simply chose a different way to care for people. 🤎
Different setting. Same standards. Same commitment. 🤎
