πŸ’” DOLLY PARTON β€” AN ICON, AN INSPIRATION, AND A BEAUTIFUL SOUL πŸ’”

Yesterday, the world said goodbye to a true icon.

Dolly Parton died peacefully at the age of 80, following a brief battle with cancer.

For many, Dolly was the voice behind Jolene, 9 to 5 and I Will Always Love You. For others, she was an actress, songwriter, businesswoman, philanthropist and one of the most recognisable women in the world.

But in the Corbins household, Dolly was β€” and always will be β€” something rather more personal. ❀️

We have our very own β€œDolly Corner”, filled with her records, posters and signed photographs. She has been a constant source of music, happiness and inspiration in our home, and there is something rather special about having a little corner dedicated to someone who brought so much joy to so many.

But what made Dolly truly extraordinary was never simply her incredible talent.

It was her kindness. Her generosity. Her humility. Her warmth. Her ability to make people smile.

She used her extraordinary success to help others, from her beloved Imagination Library, which has provided hundreds of millions of books to children, to countless other charitable causes and acts of generosity throughout her life.

Dolly wrote that most beautiful song, β€œI Will Always Love You”.

And perhaps that is the perfect sentiment to accompany her passing.

Because although Dolly has left this world, the music, laughter, kindness and hope she gave to it will remain for generations.

If everyone was as kind, generous and inspiring as Dolly Parton, the world would undoubtedly be a much better place.

From our little Dolly corner to wherever you are now…

Losing a beloved pet is never easy, and our close friends, Helen and Colin, have recently experienced the heartbreaking loss of their much-loved dogs, Charlie and Lola.

The recent court case involving Robert Bush of Legacy Funeral Directors in Hull has understandably caused concern and distress for many people. Our thoughts remain with every family affected.

Cases such as this have the potential to undermine public confidence in a profession that, at its very best, is built upon trust, integrity, compassion and respect. The overwhelming majority of funeral directors work tirelessly to provide the highest standards of care, and families should never have reason to question whether their loved one is being treated with dignity.

At Corbins – Independent Funeral Directors of Distinction, we want to reassure our community that we operate with complete openness and transparency. We have an open-door policy, and we are always happy to answer questions, show families our facilities where appropriate, and explain every aspect of the care we provide. We believe that trust is earned through honesty and accountability.

Professional standards and continuous development are incredibly important to us. I have achieved the National Association of Funeral Directors Diploma in Funeral Arranging and Administration (Dip.FAA), previously had the privilege of serving as President of the NAFD’s Sussex County Association of Funeral Directors (from 2019-2021), and am proud to be a Certificate Member of the British Institute of Funeral Directors (CM.BIFD).

As a newly established funeral business, Corbins has not yet reached the minimum number of funerals required to apply for membership of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF). Please be assured that, as soon as we meet those eligibility requirements, we will be applying to join both organisations. Membership of recognised trade associations demonstrates a commitment to high professional standards, ongoing training and best practice, and we fully intend to be part of both.

I have also requested a meeting with Jess Brown- Fuller, MP for Chichester, to discuss the urgent need for meaningful regulation of the funeral profession. While most funeral directors uphold exceptional standards, the profession needs consistent, statutory regulation to protect bereaved families, support ethical businesses and ensure that every person entrusted into our care receives the dignity and respect they deserve.

A couple of weeks ago, we were delighted to welcome Lee Jefferies from Steve Soult Limited to Corbins - Independent Funeral Directors of Distinction.

Lee visited us to continue building on the excellent working relationship we have established and kindly brought along a selection of beautifully crafted coffin samples showcasing their unrivalled engraving options, which are now proudly on display in our funeral home.

Steve Soult Ltd design and manufacture high-quality coffins and caskets on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire and are proudly Guild of Master Craftsmen accredited. Their commitment to quality and craftsmanship is evident in every product they create, and we are pleased to be able to offer their exceptional range to the families we serve.

Choosing a coffin or casket is an important and deeply personal part of arranging a funeral. Having a selection of samples available to view in our funeral home allows families to see the quality, finishes and styles firsthand, helping them make an informed decision with confidence and peace of mind.
