🗨️"My husband Brian and I moved from London to Tangmere over 13 years ago to be closer to our children and grandchildren. Family has always been at the heart of our lives. We are incredibly proud of our family. Our daughter became an Olympic gold medallist in sailing, and we now have two grandsons who are both competing in sailing events and doing extremely well in what is a very competitive sport. Our granddaughter is also excelling, currently swimming at under-16 level.
Before I retired, I worked as an accountant. Brian worked as a chef before becoming a courier, a job he loved because it gave him the freedom to travel around the UK and discover new places. I’ve always loved travelling abroad, while Brian was happiest exploring Britain.
Brian was diagnosed with manic depression in 1976, and for many years we managed well. Around two years ago, I began to notice changes in him. After tests and brain scans, we were told he had most likely suffered a stroke, and he was later diagnosed with vascular dementia.
Over time, Brian had to give up things he loved, including driving, which represented his independence, and his gardening.
We struggled to find the right support until we found Sage House, after being introduced by our son Daniel, Director of Vitale Care in Chichester.
After speaking with Julie, one of the Wayfinders, we started attending activities and quickly felt welcomed. Now we come five days a week and have made real friends through bingo, drawing and social groups.
For me, Sage House is our safe place. There is no judgement here, just understanding and support. It has made such a difference to us that we chose to become Friends of Sage House, giving a regular donation so other families can find the same support.
We couldn’t be without Sage House now." ❤️
Thank you Brian and Coleen for your generous, regular donation which enables us to support more families living with dementia.
