About Nyton House
Nyton House is a lovely residential home for the elderly, situated on the fringe ofWestergate and the 17th Century village of Aldingbourne just outside the cathedral City of Chichester. A Queen Anne period, red brick building, retaining many of its original features and sits elegantly in its 3.5 acres of grounds, where warm sunlit gardens with mature trees throw long shadows over

the sprawling lawns and a large duck pond. Rooms at Nyton House
Nyton House can accommodate up to 23 residents in single or double rooms, which are appointed over three floors. A service lift provides easy access to all floors. All bedrooms have wash basins, most have en-suite toilets and some of the larger rooms have full en-suite bathrooms. All bedrooms also have a digital TV (with freeview) and a telephone for residents own use. Most ground floor bedrooms have their own patio doors which residents in those rooms can use as needed. Prices depend on the individual room and the specific care needs of the client, ranging from £800 for a single room. Facilities at Nyton House
We have local shops in the village, as well as pubs, doctors and a garage that we can assist our residents in reaching in our own vehicles. There are Methodist, Catholic and Church of England churches all within a mile of the home and we do offera Christian services once a month in the home. The telephone network system ensures you do not get nuisance calls. We have WiFi and we can offer a lap top computer on request to use from time to time if you do not wish to bring your own PC to the home or would skype your family. We have our own library and a monthly visit by the mobile library service which can allow you to choose and request books
for normal print, large print, braille and talking books. There is a wheelchair accessible car and another vehicle for the more mobile residents to use. The home offers regular excursions to areas of interest as well as
additional trips which can be arranged on request. The home can, with prior arrangement, take residents to a local chapel for Sunday worship. For those residents who enjoy gardening there are small plots we can make available for them to use. We also offer reminiscing, music and arts and crafts and lots of planned activities throught the week to enjoy in the home. We have a magnificent conservatory (which is also
used for dining purposes) as well as the main lounge where we do have a TV and a grand piano. In addition to this we have an art studio in the grounds of our amazing gardens that swivals to allow various views to paint and draw. Staff at Nyton
On a typical morning shift (depending on the occupancy levels) there are 4 carers, 2 domestics, 1 cook/chef, 1 Kitchen Porter, 1 maintenance staff, gardener amd a member of the Management on
site; afternoons are 3 carers and 1 cook/chef and at night there are 2 carers awake for the whole night. At present we have 60% NVQ 2 or above trained staff, exceeding the requirements for this area. All new staff have an induction prior to starting work and then a probation period of 3 months where they have to complete an induction booklet linked to the Skills for Care Induction, which is a nationally recognised level of achievement for all new staff. Annually, or more often staff are trained and reviewed in Health and Safety, Moving and Handling, Infection Control, Control of Substances
Hazardous to Health (COSHH), First Aid, Dementia Care, Palliative Care and Safeguarding and the Deprivation of Liberty which links up to the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Fire training is undertaken 3 monthly for night staff and six monthly for day staff. We carry out regular Supervision of staff and appraisals to review their skills and understanding of the training given and allows for more training needs to be identified and acted on. We are very fortunate to have several generations of the same family working here and have done so in some cases since leaving school. Our team are very friendly and we have a happy working atmosphere, hence why we can retain the levels of experienced staff in our home.

Amys Cooking Club took a trip down memory lane in The Gables today. We remenisenced about childhood cooking class at school by making peppermint creams dipped in chocolate for them to enjoy after dinner. June, Audrey, Neil and Jacqueline throughly enjoyed lending a hand and can't wait to taste them.
Looking forward to our next Amys Cooking Club in the House.

The Gables enjoyed a visit from Kerry Le Bern for the first time today. Kerry sang a medley of Carpenters songs which she followed by songs from the 50s and 60s. Kerry then gave out mini precussion instruments for the residents to use and it wasn't long before we were banging our tambourines to the music. The residents said they very much enjoyed the afternoon and I'm sure it won't be long till we see Kerry again.
