The Things We Hold On To
Because I am a colon hydrotherapist, people often joke with me about "letting things go.”
They’re usually talking about the bowel. But I'm often thinking about life in general.
Over the years I've noticed that many people who struggle physically are also carrying an extraordinary amount mentally.
Some people have an over developed sense of responsibility. Some carry perfectionism.
Many are locked into old hurts, or have hidden away their unspoken grief.
A very common one is the belief that everyone else comes first, and that self sacrifice is a virtue.
It’s not. It’s a well disguised self destruct button.
I'm not saying emotion absolutely causes digestive problems, because life is rarely that simple.
But I would definitely state that the body often reflects the life we're living.
Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do is examine what we’re carrying, and simply put something down.
