Good morning π
As we are about to enter another warm spell, I thought i would share some useful hydration tips which will hopefully allow you to continue training and recover properly.
π§ Hydration for Runners: Why It Matters πββοΈπββοΈ
Staying hydrated is essential for running performance, endurance, and recovery. Even mild dehydration can cause fatigue, reduced stamina, muscle cramps, and slower recovery.
π¦ Before Your Run β
Drink around 400β600 ml of water 2β3 hours before running.
β
Running first thing in the morning? Have a small glass of water when you wake up.
π During Your Run β
Runs under 60 minutes β water is usually enough.
β
Runs over 60 minutes β consider an electrolyte drink to replace sodium and minerals lost through sweat.
β
Sip regularly rather than waiting until you feel thirsty.
π After Your Run β
Rehydrate soon after finishing with water or an electrolyte drink.
β
To estimate fluid loss, weigh yourself before and after your run. Aim for around 1.25β1.5 litres of fluid for every kilogram of body weight lost.
β οΈ Signs You May Be Dehydrated β’ Dark yellow urine
β’ Dry mouth
β’ Headache
β’ Dizziness
β’ Fatigue
β’ Drop in performance
β Top Hydration Tips β Carry a bottle or use a hydration pack on longer runs.
