Over the years, I’ve had lots of conversations with Conductors, CEOs and service managers about the challenge of ensuring everyone within an organisation has the same understanding of Conductive Education.

Whether it’s trustees, fundraisers, administrators, volunteers or classroom staff, we all play a role in representing CE. And at a classroom level, it can only strengthen conductive practice when staff teams share a similar understanding of the philosophy and principles that underpin it.

That’s what inspired me to develop CE Essentials – A Shared Understanding of Conductive Education.

A practical training session designed to help teams develop a common language, greater confidence and a clearer understanding of what makes Conductive Education unique.

Available online or in person, and tailored to the needs of your organisation.

I’d love to hear your thoughts – what do you think are the most important things every member of a Conductive Education organisation should understand about CE?

Some of our clients choose to make use of adjuncts alongside their Conductive Education and Neurophysiotherapy sessions to help support their individual goals.

Nicole has been doing just that by spending time weight-bearing through both her arms and feet on a vibration plate.

For Nicole, the primary benefits are helping to reduce muscle tone and improve circulation. By achieving a more relaxed state through her muscles, she is often better prepared for active movement, standing work and functional tasks within her sessions.

The vibration plate isn’t a replacement for Conductive Education or Neurophysiotherapy, but for some individuals it can be a useful addition that helps prepare the body for learning and movement.

As always, any adjuncts we use are carefully considered and tailored to the individual’s needs and goals.

Last week’s Post-Stroke Active Movement session focused on stepping skills.

Using floor targets, we worked on foot placement, accuracy, weight transfer and control throughout the stepping pattern.

Rather than simply taking steps, the aim was to encourage more deliberate and purposeful movement, helping to build awareness of where the foot was being placed and how the body was responding.

We also incorporated Rhythmical Intention throughout the task. The rhythm and spoken intention helped to support timing, coordination and consistency of movement, enabling our client to stay focused on the task and maintain a more organised stepping pattern.

Sometimes the smallest adjustments in movement quality can make a big difference to confidence and function in everyday activities.

A couple of weeks ago we shared that one of Emily’s young clients had officially grown taller than her!

Well, Ynes has clearly taken that as a challenge…

She was trying her very best this week and is growing fast, but she’s still got a little way to go before she catches me!

Height comparisons aside, it’s always lovely to see Ynes continuing to grow in confidence, independence and determination. We look forward to seeing what she achieves next — and whether I need to start worrying about being overtaken too!

One of the greatest joys of being a physiotherapist is having the privilege of supporting people through different stages of their lives.

I've been lucky enough to work with this incredible young lady since she was a small child, and now she's a young adult. Over the years, our sessions have focused on building confidence, developing physical skills, and supporting her and her family through life's many transitions.

Today we worked on stretching, strengthening, and mobilisation work, culminating in practising walking together using her walker. Seeing the progress that can be achieved through perseverance, teamwork, and determination never gets old.

It also served as a reminder of just how long we've been working together... because somehow this little girl has grown into a young woman who now completely towers over me! At this rate, I may need to add "step stool" to my physiotherapy equipment list. 😂
