Seven One Eight Studios is working on a Documentary for PBS and is seeking real family stories based in the U.S. to feature in a new series about dementia 🩵

The series will track the lived experiences of individuals and their families, treatments and ongoing prevention research, and the medical and cultural history of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, with the goal to de-stigmatise conversations around dementia care.

They are looking for individuals who have concerns about their own or a loved one’s memory and cognition and who have an upcoming appointment for cognitive testing or plan to schedule one soon. You can also apply if you're supporting someone with an existing diagnosis of dementia. When Liz was 10, her dad was diagnosed with behavioural variant Frontotemporal Dementia (bvFTD), a condition that caused his behaviour to change significantly.

In our new Carers Conversation episodes Liz opens up about what it was like trying to process what was happening to her Dad and thinking about grief and mortality, while still going to school and doing homework.

Across the two 10 min episodes, Liz shares how she still gets to learn about her Dad today through the stories of other people
and how we has outgoing, the "cool uncle" every cousin wanted to play football with, and the life and soul of the party. She talks about advocacy with her mom and going to AFTD conferences together.

These are incredibly moving episodes that really explore what the impact of a young onset dementia diagnosis is for a younger child who is still at school.

part 2/7 🩵 its hard enough for adults to understand and accept a dementia diagnosis, so you can imagine how confusing and upsetting it was for a teenager. therapy was a huge help in managing all those big emotions I felt and didn't know how to explain 🩵
