Vaccines not only protect your child, but also help protect babies, vulnerable people and others in our community.

On 12 August, a partial solar eclipse will be visible across the UK. Ordinary sunglasses - no matter how dark - allow harmful solar radiation to reach the retina and should not be used to view an eclipse.

If you want to use eclipse glasses make sure they are genuine with specially designed filters that meet the international safety standard.

We're heading towards another week of hot weather in the UK from 9th to 16th August, so it's important to make sure you and the older people in your life are prepared.

As we age, our bodies find it harder to adapt to more extreme temperatures, and hot weather can make some health conditions worse. We can all help keep older people safe this summer by checking in on relatives, friends, and neighbours, and offering to pick up any medication or shopping.

An Amber Heat Health Alert is currently in place across the East of England, including Essex, from 9am on Monday 3 August until 9am on Wednesday 5 August 2026.

During the high temperatures, it is important to take simple steps to stay safe and well.

Stay safe by:

💧 Drinking plenty of water
🏠 Keeping your home as cool as possible
🌳 Avoiding direct sun during the hottest part of the day
👨‍👩‍👧‍👧 Checking in on older relatives, neighbours and friends
⚠️ Knowing the signs of heat exhaustion
