It’s easy to feel disconnected and alone when facing something difficult. At times like these, I reach for poetry. It reminds me that none of us is the first to feel afraid, to hope, or to search for meaning. Somehow, poetry has a way of connecting us to one another across time through our shared humanity.

Today this one that speaks to me.

Sometimes, what we notice on the surface is only the shadow of something deeper.

A fleeting thought, a sudden mood, a hesitation in speech. They are whispers from the parts of ourselves we rarely meet.

Psychoanalysis teaches us that beneath the day-to-day, our unconscious shapes our experience. Paying attention, without judgment, can turn small moments into profound insight:

The silence in a conversation may echo unspoken fears.
A dream fragment may mirror desires we’ve tucked away.
Even repetition - the habits we can’t explain - often carry meaning.

To notice is to begin to understand. To feel is to start to map the hidden terrain of the self.

Before the emails.
Before the rushing.
Before the week gathers momentum.

Take one quiet minute.

Notice your breathing.
Feel your feet on the ground.
Let your shoulders soften.

Mindfulness isn’t about emptying the mind or becoming perfectly calm.

It’s simply about arriving where you already are.

One steady breath can be enough to begin the week differently.

Mine is the sea.

Sometimes the calm we need doesn’t come from within. It comes from another person.

A steady voice.
Someone listening without rushing to fix things.
A presence that says, “You’re not alone with this.”

Psychology calls this co-regulation. Our nervous systems settle in the company of someone who feels safe.

Long before we learn to regulate our own emotions, we borrow calm from others. In many ways, we continue doing that throughout our lives.

A conversation with a friend.
A quiet moment with someone who understands.
Or a space in therapy where difficult feelings can be held together.

Human beings were never meant to regulate everything alone. Can I have a shorter version of this
