I am my mother's savage daughter,
the one who runs barefoot cursing sharp stones.
I am my mother's savage daughter,
I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice.

My mother's child is a savage,
She looks for her omens in the colors of stones,
In the faces of cats, in the fall of feathers,
In the dancing of fire and the curve of old bones.

My mother's child dances in darkness,
And sings heathen songs by the light of the moon,
And watches the stars and renames the planets,
And dreams she can reach them with a song and a broom.

My mother's child curses too loud and too often,
My mother's child laughs too hard and too long,
And howls at the moon and sleeps in ditches,
And clumsily raises her voice in this song.

Now we’re brought forth out of darkness and water,
Brought into this world through blood and through pain,
And deep in our bones, the old songs are wakening,
So sing them with voices of thunder and rain.

We are our mother's savage daughters,
The ones who run barefoot cursing sharp stones.
We are our mother's savage daughters,
We will not cut our hair, We will not lower our voice”

This Homelessness Awareness Week, we want you to look beyond the headlines and see the people staying right here in our hostel. Homelessness is not a statistic; it’s a human issue. Every individual has a name, a story of struggle, and an absolute right to safety, dignity, and support.

From our experience, we see daily how the lack of a secure home devastates mental health. Housing is foundational to healing and rebuilding.

Change starts with you. Choose to , challenge the stigma, and support our collective effort for better services and stronger housing solutions across Northern Ireland.

💔⚔️ The Death of Connla – Cú Chulainn’s Most Heartbreaking Battle ⚔️💔

One of the saddest stories in Irish mythology is the death of Connla, the only son of Cú Chulainn and the warrior-woman Aífe.

Before leaving Aífe’s land, Cú Chulainn gives her three taboos for their unborn son:
1️⃣ Never turn back once you’ve started a journey.
2️⃣ Never refuse a challenge.
3️⃣ Never tell your name.

Years later, a mysterious young warrior arrives on the shores of Ireland. Confident, skilful, and silent, he defeats every champion sent against him. Bound by his father’s geasa, he refuses to identify himself.

Cú Chulainn steps forward to face him.

Their battle is fierce, equal, and unstoppable — until the Hound of Ulster uses the devastating g*e bolga, the one weapon in the world the boy cannot survive.

As Connla dies, he finally reveals the truth:
“I am your son.”

In that moment, Cú Chulainn collapses in grief, realising he has slain the child he never knew.

This tragic tale reminds us that even Ireland’s greatest hero could not escape fate — or the consequences of his own geasa.
