Thanks to Lyndsey Stuttard M.Ed, our EdTech Specialist at ACS International Schools for creating this sign for my school counselling office. She let me design it, Lyndsey turned it into a mock-up, and shortly afterwards it was ready to be 3D printed.

It’s been great to see students noticing it and it’s a welcoming addition to my space 💜

Knitting has a funny way of teaching me the same things I talk about in my counselling office:

⏱️Patience: you can’t rush healing and growth.

🪜One step at a time: A whole scarf is just one stitch after another. Big feelings and big challenges are handled one moment at a time.

❌Mistakes are fixable: drop a stitch? You don’t throw the whole project away (although I have theown it in the bag of doom 🥲) You pause, go back, and try again. That’s resilience.

🧶Every piece is unique: same pattern, different wool, different tension… different result. Just like our students, every story is unique.

I have always believed that supporting CYP isn’t about “fixing” everything quickly. It’s about sitting alongside them while things slowly come together, loop by loop.

🧁Cupcake feelings. This beautiful cupcake made by my colleague reminded me of how children come up with the most creative ways to express their emotions. This quarter we have used: role play with finger puppets, drawing, the weather, volcanoes and more.

So how could we use a cupcake as part of visualising and exploring emotions? Each layer could represent a different emotion, for example:

🧁The frosting on top could be how we present ourselves to the world, often masking the complexity beneath.
🧁The flavour is shaped by its ingredients, like our emotions are influenced by our experiences and interactions.

🌟 What a day! The first day of school is in the books. I’m ready for a year of growth and learning in my new role as Lead School Counsellor here at ACS International Schools Cobham. It’s going to be a fulfilling journey ahead, and today was just the beginning. Here’s to a great year! 💙
