Good evening,

The weather outside makes this post feel a lot more appropriate than it was a few days ago.

We are getting asked more and more often about when our flu and COVID service starts.

The NHS will only allow us to vaccinate eligible patients from the 1st October, with the exception of flu for pregnant women. So unless you’re pregnant, we couldn’t vaccinate you on the NHS scheme m, even if we had vaccine.

The 1st October is a Thursday, so once I’ve received my first delivery of flu vaccine I will confirm this as a start date. If the vaccine is delayed (some manufacturers are warning of this) we may start the following week.

So there’s no need to panic. We should be able to offer walk in flu and COVID vaccinations, but will also add appointments to the NHS system for those who prefer to book. Please note that the NHS decide our COVID allocation so we will just have to work with whatever they send us.

We do everything we can to avoid letting people down. I could confidently promise that we will have vaccine and put loads of appointments on the booking system, but there’s little point in that if we have to cancel due to delays in supply. I’ll post more information shortly once I know for certain that we will have the vaccine. And once we do, you can be sure that we will have enough to meet the demand.

Once we have vaccine, we will be able to vaccinate patients not eligible for the NHS services, privately. This year flu jabs will be £19 and COVID jabs £90. This is likely to be from mid September onwards.

Thanks

Good afternoon,

We have added some more appointments for our NHS Meningitis B vaccination service. This is for students going to university for the first time. Eligibility criteria apply so please check at the time of booking. Two jabs, at least 4 weeks apart are required, so some of these appointments might help you to complete your course before you head off for the excitement of freshers’ week.

Link to book in the comments. Students who have taken a gap year are unable to book online so will need to call the pharmacy.

Thanks

Good evening,

Just letting patients know that the road closures in town tomorrow, mean that we won’t be running our delivery service and also won’t receive all of our medication deliveries.

All services will resume on Thursday.

We’ve added some extra appointments for our NHS meningitis B service. These can either be for first doses or as a second dose as long as your first dose was at least 28 days.

If you are just leaving 6th form you can book online via the link in the comments. If you are older and attending university for the first time you will need to call to make an appointment during one of our clinics as the system doesn’t allow online booking for older students for some reason.

Please note that eligibility rules still apply.

Good morning,

Just a quick post to let you all know that we haven’t forgotten about flu and COVID.

Our NHS autumn service will start in October and we will let you know exactly how it will go when we know a few more details. The crux of it is:

Flu will always be available as a walk in whenever we have a clinic running. COVID will also be run on that basis, but only if we have been sent adequate vaccine. In the last few years we have been so hopefully this will continue, but we will let you know. If you are able to book a COVID jab online then that’s what we would advise.

Appointments will be made available on the national booking system website in a couple of weeks.

For patients ineligible for an NHS flu or COVID jab, we will be running a private service too.

I do plan to visit the village halls I routinely visit too, and will let you know the dates once they have been set.

Thanks

Here is a bit of new information about medical exemption certificates.

From time to time we have discussions with patients about these certificates. To claim for a free prescription on medical grounds, you must have a valid one of these.

These need to be applied for via your GP and the NHS don’t automatically grant free prescriptions because you are diabetic, epileptic, have been diagnosed with a form of cancer etc.

When we ask, we aren’t being nosey. We are trying to save you from a fine, which nowadays can be issued automatically without ever being seen by a human. Trying to reverse these fines can be an arduous and stressful activity.

So please check your certificate expiries. New certificates will have a 10 year expiry, with those relating to cancer staying at 5 years.

Thanks

Tonight we went out for a meal to say a final farewell to Jean after her retirement last week.

It’s obviously an official farewell, but we fully expect to see plenty of her and don’t expect her to walk past the shop without popping in to say hi. She actually came in earlier in the week and made us all a brew. Muscle memory is hard to overcome!

Jean asked me to thank everyone who wished her well on facebook as well as those who dropped in a card or gift. I can honestly say that Jean is so humble, that she had no idea of just what she means to so many people.

Happy retirement Jean ❤️

We have added some more appointments for next week. Please note that at present only those leaving Year 13 can book online. Once we have more vaccine we should hopefully be able to accept walk in patients who are older but attending university for the first time.

Thanks

Take care Jean. An extremely well earned retirement and a fantastic achievement to leave us on her own terms on her 87th birthday. We will miss you, but can just about understand your decision!! ☺️
And what a way to leave, with your first trip in a Porsche 911!
