ADHD in men is often recognised for the hyperactivity and impulsivity people can see.

What gets missed is what’s happening underneath.

The overthinking.
The emotional dysregulation.
The anxiety.
The overwhelm.
The constant feeling of trying harder than everyone else just to keep up.

Many men grow up being told they’re lazy, disruptive, immature, or not applying themselves.
So instead of understanding their struggles, they learn to hide them.

The result can be years of shame, low self-esteem, burnout, relationship difficulties, and feeling like something is wrong with them.

ADHD isn’t just about attention.
It’s about how you regulate emotions, manage stress, navigate relationships, and move through daily life.

For many men, understanding ADHD isn’t about finding an excuse.
It’s about finally finding an explanation.

ADHD in women is often misunderstood, overlooked, or diagnosed much later in life.

For years, ADHD research focused primarily on boys, whose symptoms were more likely to be external and disruptive. Hyperactivity in girls often looks different.

Instead of climbing the walls, it might look like:
• constant overthinking
• racing thoughts
• talking a lot
• emotional intensity
• feeling restless inside
• difficulty switching off

Many girls learn to mask their struggles from a young age. They work hard to appear organised, cope quietly, and meet expectations, even when they’re overwhelmed underneath.

As a result, ADHD in women is often mistaken for:
• anxiety
• depression
• low self-esteem
• being “too sensitive”
• not trying hard enough

The reality is that ADHD affects much more than attention. It can impact emotional regulation, working memory, organisation, relationships, self-esteem, and daily functioning.

When women finally receive a diagnosis, it can bring relief, validation, and a new understanding of struggles they’ve carried for years.

Understanding ADHD isn’t about making excuses.
It’s about replacing self-blame with self-understanding.

What does emotionally unsafe look like?

26/05/2026

You look like you’re coping on the outside.

But underneath, you’re overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, overthinking everything, and struggling to hold it all together.

Therapy can help you understand your patterns, regulate your emotions, and feel more connected to yourself and your relationships again.

You don’t have to keep carrying it all alone.
