Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Lesley and Alex Moss, a wonderful husband-and-wife acoustic duo, to Woodland View. 🎶

Lesley approached our Activity Coordinator about coming along to do a trial performance for us, and it went down a storm! Residents, relatives, visitors and staff all thoroughly enjoyed their performance.

Lesley has a beautiful voice, while Alex is fantastic on the guitar, and together they treated us to music from across the genres, plenty of sing-alongs and something for everyone. The feedback throughout the morning and afterwards was unanimous..everyone wanted them to come back!

We’re delighted that Lesley and Alex will be returning on 6th November in the morning, and they’re already booked to join us again on Christmas Eve to bring some festive music to Woodland View. 🎄🎶

If you’d like to meet this wonderful pair, you’re very welcome to come along and enjoy the music with us!

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming the wonderful Alicia from Together Animal Assisted Therapeutic Sessions for another animal therapy visit🐰🐢

Our residents, visitors and staff absolutely love these sessions, and as you can see from the photos, everyone was completely engaged and enjoying the chance to spend time with the animals and reptiles

This visit included guinea pigs, rabbits, a tortoise, gecko, millipede and a snake! 🐍

Animal visits bring so much to our home, encouraging conversation, reminiscence, sensory engagement and, most importantly, plenty of smiles and meaningful moments

We’re hoping to welcome Together Animals back for another one or two sessions before Christmas, and we’ll share the dates with you when they’re confirmed

Together Animals are a wonderful community-based Colchester business, and we’re very proud to support them wherever we can, including their lovely Bunny Cafes for local children🐰

We’ve started our week with a little relaxing creativity in the Coffee Lounge 🎨🌿

This morning, our residents enjoyed painting plant pots with acrylic paints, which will be used in our Gardening Club tomorrow to fill with bulbs, as requested by our residents. 🪴🌷

Creative activities like this are a lovely way to encourage self-expression, conversation and a sense of achievement, while giving everyone the opportunity to make something personal that they can keep and enjoy in their own room.

On Monday we welcomed back Little City - North Essex and Chestnut Childminding for another fantastic intergenerational session

Our Coffee Lounge was transformed into a little city, with a hair salon, doctor’s surgery, kitchen and lots of other interactive areas for the children to explore through imaginative play

These sessions are always so popular with our residents, childminders and children alike, creating lots of opportunities for conversation, laughter and shared experiences across the generations

We’re already looking forward to our Christmas Little City, which will be opening for bookings soon, and if previous sessions are anything to go by, it’s sure to be a popular one! 🎄

This week some of our residents enjoyed a trip to Stanway Garden Centre, making the most of the beautiful weather and helping us choose some of the arts and crafts we’ll be using over the coming months

With Harvest, Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas ahead, this is our busiest time of year for crafting! Our residents helped choose some lovely things for our upcoming creations, including plant pots ready for decorating and planting with Gardening Club.

We also enjoyed a little shopping, some new cuddly teddies and a visit to the cafe!

It was also Sita’s last trip with us before she heads off on maternity leave, so it was lovely to enjoy one final outing together 🫶🏼

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming Julie and Jane from Tyler-Kemp Music, who once again had our residents singing along and taking a trip down memory lane. 🎶

They treated us to a wonderful selection of songs, including Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree, along with favourites such as Country Roads, King of the Road and Jambalaya

Julie and Jane are firm favourites with our residents, and it’s easy to see why! Their fantastic variety of music and the different instruments they play always make for a really enjoyable afternoon.

Music can bring back memories, encourage conversation and connection, and, most importantly, put a smile on people’s faces

Today we were joined by Louie from Longevity with Louie! 🎶💪

Louie has been visiting us for quite some time, and at our recent Residents & Relatives Meeting we received some fabulous feedback about him. He remembers our residents by name, keeps the sessions fun with his cheeky banter, and his exercise-to-music sessions are enjoyed by residents and relatives alike.

From now on, Louie will be joining us every Wednesday, and we’re so pleased to have him with us each week!

We will, of course, miss Annie from Jesters Theatre Academy, who is moving on as her own business continues to grow and take on more community classes. We’re incredibly grateful for all the fun she has brought to Woodland View and wish her every success for the future!

A huge congratulations to our Employee of the Month, Andra! 🎉

Andra, one of our Registered Nurses, has shown such a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to supporting the team. While Adrien is on maternity leave, Andra has been working alongside Jain and Franz, helping to ensure everything continues to run smoothly. She also stepped up to provide further support to Franz while Jain was on annual leave

What really stands out is how approachable Andra is. Staff know that she will make time to listen, take their concerns seriously and offer support with compassion and understanding

Her willingness to step up, support her colleagues and simply be there as a listening ear has made a real difference to the team.

👰 Resident Celebrates Granddaughter’s Wedding Blessing 🤵

The team at Derham House Care Home in were delighted to help one of their much-loved residents, June, enjoy a very special day when she attended her granddaughter’s wedding blessing at St Helen & St Giles Church in Rainham, surrounded by family and friends.

June was delighted to witness such an important milestone in her granddaughter’s life and to share in the joy of the occasion.
Following the service, the celebrations continued back at Derham House, where family and friends gathered for a reception.

June, who recently turned 89, commented: “I have had such a marvellous day, my granddaughter, Keeley, looks absolutely beautiful, I am over the moon for her and Daniel, they are such a gorgeous couple. It has been fantastic to celebrate with them and have all my family together.”

What an unforgettable day for all involved! 👏

⛳️🤸‍♀️ Get Ready to Get Barchester Moving ⛳️🤸‍♀️

From 6th to 12th July, residents, patients, families, friends and colleagues across the country will be getting active as part of Get Barchester Moving Week 2026 – a fun-filled week of movement and fundraising in support of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

There’ll be something for everyone – from gentle exercises and dance sessions to sponsored walks, live entertainment and more – all designed to put the ‘fun’ into fundraising while promoting movement and wellbeing.

The Foundation helps older people and those living with disabilities stay connected to their local communities.

Let’s get moving and make a difference together.

⭐ Waterside Court Donates £1,000 to Cycling Charity ⭐

Waterside Court Care Home in recently presented Cycling Without Age with a cheque for £1,000 to support their wonderful contribution in enriching the lives of care home residents and the wider Wallingford community.

Cycling Without Age in Wallingford offers free trishaw rides to residents of care homes and day centres and for elderly local residents, helping to combat loneliness and social isolation.

The grant has been awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Mike Heath MBE, Operations Manager, said, “The donation is very much welcomed and appreciated and will be a huge help in continuing our contribution to the wellbeing and enjoyment of Wallingford residents.”

Heather, a resident at the home, shared, “Going through Wallingford Town Centre and waving out to people I know, makes my day. We feel very much part of the community.” 👏

🎉 Hafan Y Coed Celebrates Excellent CIW Ratings 🎉

Hafan Y Coed Care Home in passed a recent Care Inspectorate Wales inspection with ‘Excellent’ ratings - the best possible ratings – across the board, after being praised for operating a safe, well-maintained, caring and well-led service.

The report stated that there was a strong sense of community and teamwork in the home nurtured by a very well-respected management team who promote choice, independence and positive wellbeing outcomes for their residents.

A relative commented: “They go over and above what’s required. It’s the thoughtful little things, you don’t need to ask, they just do it.”

Our COO, Natasha Lazovic, visited Hafan Y Coed to congratulate the team on the home’s Excellent ratings and award every member of staff a £500 voucher to celebrate their achievement. She shared: “Hafan Y Coed is a fantastic home delivering exceptional care to its residents, I couldn’t be prouder of General Manager, Sarah, and every single member of staff here. I am delighted to be here today to congratulate everyone personally, meet the residents and chat to the team about their wonderful work.”

⭐ Elgar Court Wins Prestigious Award ⭐

We’re happy to share that Elgar Court Care Home in has scooped the Best Residential Care Home Award for 2026 in Worcestershire. The home has been chosen out of a number of care homes across Worcestershire.

Elgar Court is a luxury residential care home and opened in July 2023. The care home offers bespoke person-centred residential and dementia care, and is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Malvern Hills – the town which was voted in 2026 as the best place to live in the Midlands.

🚴‍♀️ Tour de Barchester 2026 Highlights 🚴‍♂️

We’ve created a lovely video showcasing some of the highlights from this year’s Tour de Barchester – a gruelling 200-mile cycling challenge.

Thanks to the incredible support of our colleagues, care homes, sponsors and suppliers, we raised over £64,000 for Barchester's Charitable Foundation, which supports older people and other adults living with a disability or a mental health condition by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported the event. Your energy, generosity and determination made all the difference.

🎉 Elderwood House is Now Complete 🎉

We’re thrilled to share that the Mayor of Swanley, Councillor Michael Horwood, has celebrated the completion of our new luxury care home in , Elderwood House, in front of invited guests from the local community.

Our CEO, Dr Pete Calveley, and General Manager, Liza Burchell, hosted the event and invited guests to view the stunning new 62-bed care home.

The home has been designed with residents’ comfort in mind and the team at Elderwood House will offer residential support, respite stays and dementia care, all delivered by a dedicated and passionate team of trained professionals.
