An emotional moment on the course today. After 45 laps, Tom Monro stepped out for lap 46, with the vocal support of his crew, the spectators and the four remaining athletes.
Even with the strong encouraging arm of Dave Phillips beside him, Tom eventually ground to a halt, made his way back to the start and called his DNF. There were tears. There were hugs. There was the kind of exhaustion which carries a huge sense of pride.
There are very few people who can say they've run 187.5 miles but very, very few can say they've done it at just,
19 years old.
Thomas, that was special. Thank you.
