🎉 1,500 Dementia Friends! 🎉

We are incredibly proud to announce a massive milestone for our Bluebird Care family: we have officially helped create 1,500 Dementia Friends across 65 dedicated sessions!

A huge round of applause goes to our fantastic Dementia Friends Ambassador, Rob Wallace, who has been passionately leading the charge. We officially crossed the 1,500 mark during a wonderful recent session with the Salvation Army at their Clacton office, where we were joined by lovely attendees from across St Osyth, Point Clear, Weeley, Harwich, and Clacton.

What is a Dementia Friend?
Led by the Alzheimer’s Society, the Dementia Friends initiative aims to transform how our nation thinks, acts, and talks about dementia. Being a Dementia Friend simply means learning a little bit more about what it is like to live with dementia, and then turning that understanding into positive action—whether that is being a bit more patient in a shop queue, supporting a loved one, or just spreading the word.

Our Commitment:
At Bluebird Care, we are deeply committed to building dementia-friendly communities. We know firsthand that with the right support, patience, and understanding, people living with dementia can continue to live fulfilling, independent lives in the comfort of their own homes. Educating our community is a vital part of making that a reality.

We had another great community meet for our customers at Cadows earlier this week, but we're not sure how impressed Jamie was with Becky's attempt to Hula hoop! Looks like a 5/10 from Jamie - room for improvement Becky!!!

Hopefully next month's meet up Becky will be a Hula pro!

This is a London based charity offering support to anyone who supports someone with dementia. The website has help and support section which provides tips on understanding dementia, looking after yourself as a dementia carer, every day challenges and also your rights as a dementia carer.

This is a great resource for family members who may not be in a position to pay for additional support from a professional care provider.

World Alzheimer’s Month may be coming to an end, but dementia carers need understanding and support all year round. 💜

Whether you need practical information, emotional support or simply reassurance that someone understands, our support is here.

"Arguing doesn't help. Compassionate communication does".

One of the hardest lessons is realizing that Alzheimer's cannot be argued with.

When we try to reason, correct, or convince, it often creates more fear and frustration—for both the person living with dementia and the persom caring for them.

Maybe we should try and meet our loved one where they are. Help them feel safe. Help them feel understood. That shift in approach can change everything.

The goal isn't to win an argument. The goal is to preserve peace, dignity, and connection and that is how all of our care team are trained.

We’re incredibly proud to have recently completed our Gold Standards Framework reaccreditation, maintaining our commitment to delivering the highest standards of end-of-life care.

The Gold Standards Framework is an important part of how we continually review and improve the care we provide. Maintaining our accreditation reflects the hard work, knowledge and dedication of our team, and our commitment to ensuring people receive compassionate, personalised and dignified care at the end of their lives.

For us, achieving the accreditation was never about reaching a finish line. Reaccreditation is about continuing to learn, reflect and improve.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone involved in maintaining this important standard and of the care our teams provide every day to customers and their families.

Understanding dementia isn’t just about learning the facts — it’s about understanding what life can actually feel like for someone living with the condition.

We’ve welcomed the Virtual Dementia Tour bus to Bluebird Care twice, giving our staff and family members of customers living with dementia the opportunity to experience some of the challenges dementia can present.

It was a powerful and eye-opening experience, helping us better understand how changes in perception, communication and the environment can affect someone living with dementia — and how we can adapt the way we provide support as a result.

For us, it’s all part of our ongoing commitment to improving dementia care and putting ourselves in the shoes of the people and families we support.

Because the better we understand dementia, the better we can care.
