For National Housekeeping Week, we’re celebrating the people who work so hard to make Horkesley Manor feel like home, including our lovely Annette. 💙✨

Annette has been part of the Horkesley Manor team for three years and has become a familiar and much-loved face around the home.

She’s always happy to go that little bit further, whether she’s watering the plants, helping a resident find something they need or simply stopping for a friendly chat.

With World Patient Safety Day taking place this week, we’re marking the occasion across Stow Healthcare by shining a light on some of the everyday ways we help residents to live well. 💙🌍

At Horkesley Manor, residents got us started with an afternoon of active games, bringing together gentle movement, plenty of laughter and a little friendly competition! 🎯😊

This year’s World Patient Safety Day highlights safe care for people living with long-term conditions, including the importance of prevention and healthy lifestyles. Staying active in ways that are enjoyable and suited to each person is one of the simple ways we can support this.

Over the coming days, we’ll be sharing more of the ways our homes are getting involved in our Living Well at Stow initiative. 🌿

Horkesley Manor has begun a new Career Series, giving residents the chance to share the stories and skills from their working lives. 💙

For our first session, residents gathered together to hear from one gentleman about his fascinating career as a silversmith. He spoke proudly about the many things he used to create, from jewellery to silver cups, all carefully crafted from sheets of silver. ✨

A relative kindly brought in two special examples of his work for everyone to see, a beautiful silver jug and goblet. Although he misses his career, his creative side is still very much part of him, and he now enjoys drawing landscapes. 🎨

It was a special opportunity to learn more about his life and celebrate a skill he is rightly very proud of. 💙

There was a proud moment at Horkesley Manor this week as our residents gathered to bring in the harvest from our vegetable garden. After a full season of tending, watering and hoping, the grand total came to a few carrots, two peas and one egg. We think it is safe to say we will not be giving the local farmers any sleepless nights this year!

What the garden lacked in produce it more than made up for in good company. There is a lot to be said for a morning spent outside together, having a laugh at our very modest crop and already plotting how to do better next season. The egg, we should add, was a lovely surprise.

Our Cooking Club turned its attention to waffles today… and judging by the empty plates, they were a definite success! 🧇...

Our Cooking Club turned its attention to waffles today… and judging by the empty plates, they were a definite success! 🧇

Residents got stuck into preparing and cooking plenty to go around, before settling down to enjoy the results together.

Let’s just say lots of waffles were made, but somehow not a single one survived the afternoon! 💙

We couldn’t let National Potato Day pass without having a little fun! 🥔😂

Residents started with a crisp tasting, sampling a selection of flavours and ranking them in order of preference – and yes, we know they weren’t all technically potato crisps!

Then it was time to get creative with some brilliant Mr Potato Heads, which brought plenty of laughs as everyone came up with their own characters.

A fun and slightly silly way to celebrate the humble spud! 🥔💙

Our wonderful Pot Gang has been keeping busy indoors during the hot weather, giving our houseplants a little extra love and care. 🌿🪴

Residents have been repotting orchids and spider plants, deadheading flowers and helping keep our indoor greenery looking its very best. It was a lovely, relaxing session filled with conversation, teamwork and plenty of gardening know-how.

Meanwhile, our trainee therapy pup decided the gardening was best supervised... from the comfort of a cosy nap! 🐶💤

Residents at Horkesley Manor recently enjoyed a very special visit from Mavis the tortoise! 🐢💙

As well as meeting Mavis up close, residents learned all about the care she needs, including her diet, daily routine and what helps keep her happy and healthy. There were lots of interesting questions and conversations as everyone discovered more about these fascinating creatures.

To make sure nobody missed out, Mavis also made her way around the home to visit residents in their bedrooms, bringing plenty of smiles wherever she went.

What a fantastic day we had at Horkesley Manor's Summer Fête! ☀️🎉

It was a pleasure to welcome so many residents, relatives, friends and members of the local community for a day filled with fun, entertainment and wonderful company.

We were honoured to have the fabulous Su Pollard officially open the fête before treating everyone to a fantastic performance. We were also delighted to welcome Andrew Robley, son of one of our residents, whose entertainment was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Our ever-popular dog show was a real highlight of the day, with some wonderful four-legged entrants. Congratulations to one of our lucky winners, pictured here! 🐶🏆

A special thank you also goes to Su for taking the time to speak with BBC Radio Essex during the event. We are incredibly grateful for her continued support of Horkesley Manor and our community.

Thank you to everyone who came along, supported the event and helped make it such a memorable day. We can't wait to welcome you back for many more events in the future! 💙
