A gentle reminder, that with softness actually brings more space. Not just physical, but the mental and emotional tension we hold can carry across our physical body - our annamaya body.
Chasing shapes alone is not the answer.
Nor is it the motivation or philosophy behind yoga.
The practice of yoga spans so much further than the asana - the postures. It becomes a lifestyle. How you treat yourself, the people around you, open your mind to so much more than the physical.
In the first picture (11 years ago… Wow!) I was probably at my peak physical fitness. I was strong, thin and still really self critical. But what I see is using strength to try and push my body to depths and shapes it’s not ready for. Why? Because social media influenced my young mind thinking to do yoga, the asana was the focus.
Social media was a different space then.
All show, and heaps of pressure!
The second picture, I see a softness. I see rest. A body that feels comfortable and at peace. This hasn’t just come from doing more asana practice. In fact, I probably do waaaay less than ever now! 3 year old daughter, holding down 2 jobs, trying to survive day to day 😂 (If you know, you know!)
But what I do more of now - finding stillness. Becoming at peace in a more yin practice. Being happy with foundational movements in my yang practices. No pressure to do anything “fancy”. No pressure to share every moment.
Just a deep inner peace of surrendering and accepting. In my own practice and in my teachings.
Something that only time can give you.
So here’s my reminder:
Don’t rush your practice.
Don’t push your body past its limits.
Instead, embrace a little stillness and softness in your life.
